Mars releases Dec. 2018

Posted by Erich von Manstein on 06 Dec 2018, 13:33

Although not yet viewable at PSR, many european shops carry the latest Mars releases for some time already.
Have a look at T'n'T, Linear-A, HobbyTerra and other shops to see the painted figures on the box covers.
This time, a WWII-only release:

72109 - Imperial Japanese Paratroopers
72111 - German Elite Infantry in winter dress
72112 - German Naval Troops
72113 - Don Cossacks in German service

Announced, but still missing:
72110 - Luftwaffe Field Division

The figures are not overwhelmingly great, but maybe useful for some since they aim to fill secondary WWII gaps.

Really looking forward to some WWII US Marines or heavy weapons to go with their Japanese. There are still too many gaps left by Revell/Airfix (well, really, only Airfix is easily found to buy). I heard a rumor some sort of WWII US Infantry will be upcoming from Mars. I need a good Marine officer and radio operator. Wat 1815 made the only ones out there, but even they are rare.

PSR shows pre-review images for 2 sets now.

72111 - German Elite Infantry in winter dress

72112 - German Naval Troop

Each set contains 40 figures in 8 poses.
As mentioned before, the figures are not of an award winning quality... . :(

And ugly figs. Even if they improved their normal standard, these sets are still low quality.

Not supporting entirely their products but the most perfect sculpts can be made to look "ugly" with a poor paintjob...and visa versa (?)

I agree with you.

It is nice that Mars do now there own model. And do not cut and modified Matchbox and Esci figures as in the past.
But to my total positive surprise the German Don Cossack set is in a far higher quality in detail as expected. Far better as my rubber Romanian HÄT (middle row, olive), Revell Pionier (top row green)
and as Linear-B (last row) civil man.

Red brown Don Cossack, grey Naval Troop both Mars.

Yes, of course, you are right, Paul, but I think the improvement of MARS is far behind the other manufacturers. And since they started with black copies, I did not like them. And making figures better with a good paintjob, will make them only better in some cases.

You are right as well, but have a look at their legs and feet. They have no real details and they are bigger than the rest of the body. Imho...

Above all, the figures are not detailed and full of smudges.
