Strelets releases first half 2018

Posted by Erich von Manstein on 11 May 2018, 00:30

There are strong indications that Strelets will release their first 2018 batch within the next weeks now.

Currently they show ready figures & sprues at their website at an almost daily rate.
http://www.strelets-r.com/Pages/Index.aspx

The upcoming batch could possibly look like this:

155 - ACW Pickett's Charge Set 3
158 - ACW Confederate Skirmishing
165 - WWI Imperial Camel Corps
166 - WWI Australian Camel Corps
170 - Nap French Old Guard standing at ease
171 - Nap French Old Guard at attention
176 - WWII Japanese Type 38 75mm Field Gun & crew

M054 - 19th century Foot Bashi-Bazouk
M077 - Spartacus Army
M123 - WWI Imperial Camel Corps dismounted
M131 - WWI Australian Camel Corps dismounted
M132 - WWII British 8th Army Heavy Weapons Squad

Certainly an quite WWI-heavy list, just guessing here.

Other sets they have in queue:

129 - Nap General Staff Set 3
143 - Nap Polish Artillery
154 - ACW Union Infantry charging
159 - ACW Union Infantry firing line
160 - ACW Union Infantry in defence
167 - WWI Turkish Camel Corps
168 - Nap Prussian Landwehr on the march
169 - Nap Prussian Landwehr standing at ease
172 - WWI Arab Uprising Camel Riders
174 - Nap Prussian Line Infantry on the march
178 - ACW Pickett's Charge Set 4
179 - ACW Union Infantry in attack Set 3
184 - Nap French Line Infantry standing at attention
??? - ACW 12 pdr. Whitworth breechloading rifle
??? - WWII Afrika Korps Artillery
??? - WWI/WWII 105mm Schneider 1913 gun
??? - Boer War Artillery

M091 - Caesar Army in battle Set 2
M106 - US Rangers 1812
M110 - Spartacus Army before battle
M115 - Nap French Sappers
M116 - WWII Japanese Infantry in winter dress

A014 - WWI/WWII 220mm Schneider TR mod.1915/16 howitzer
A015 - WWI 155mm St Chamond C mod.1915 howitzer
A??? - WWI 30,5cm Mörser M.11/M.16
A??? - WWI 42cm Autohaubitze M.16

Whichever sets the upcoming release will finally contain, it is obvious that the so called “Golden Age“ never ended nor did it slow down.
The only thing that changed is that Hät compulsorily stopped flooding the market with 50 poor sets per year. Which actually is a gratifying development. ;-)

Looking forward to many of the announced Nap, WWI & WWII sets! :yeah:

From what I read at Strelets forum the next release batch will include 15 (!) sets and seems to be imminent now. :-D

There’s also a list of the most plausible sets the upcoming batch could involve.

158 - ACW Confederate Infantry skirmishing
159 - ACW Union Infantry firing
165 - WWI British Camel Corps
166 - WWI Australian Camel Corps
167 - WWI Turkish Camel Corps
170 - Nap. Old Guard at ease
171 - Nap. Old Guard at attention
172 - WWI Arab Uprising camelry
178 - ACW Pickett's Confederate Charge Set #3
179 - ACW Union Infantry in attack Set #3
184 - Nap. French Line Infantry at attention

M110 - Ancient Rome Spartacus Army before battle
M123 - WWI Imperial Camel Corps dismounted
M131 - WWI Australian Camel Corps dismounted
M132 - WWII 8th Army Heavy Weapons Squad

It is most likely that Strelets will release a similar sized batch around christmas.
The sheer quantity combined with the indisputable improvement of their quality leaves me completely wowed!

Who would have thought that, as ironically as it seems, Strelets would become the leading figure manufacturer in 1/72?
No one would have guessed that 10 or even 5 or 3 years ago.

Bravo Strelets!
... and keep em coming!

Thank you very much for that update! And I must agree with you concerning the leading role of Strelets. But already before I like a lot of their sets because of their individual style. I know that this is a point of discussion here.

Zvezda had the top spot all to themselves but they curiously abdicated their throne with little, if any, fanfare.

I am glad Strelets are still cranking out new sets. Quality has improved and there are a lot of good ideas explored.

Strelets' quality has certainly improved but they still have a way to go. Their best is not as good as Zvesda or the best of Hat.
Indeed, if HaT ever get round to releasing their ACW sets, it is not impossible they'll be better than the Strelets' ones (where detail is still not as crisp as I'd like).

No set or company is flawless or perfect.
E.g.: Zvezda got the size issue, the picks and holes on horsemen and horses, the too perfect dressed for battle. Hat the few poses, quick change of styles/sculptors.
And Strelets still got their items too.
But when I buy them it’s looking at the pro’s and cons and, make a desicion and live with certain imperfections.
That said: this usefull set is oh so nice!

I agree, HaTs marching figures are not perfect but still the best if they eventually arrive. With that said I will buy the skirmishing/firing sets because you can't have enough firing figures. I don't think Strelets are that impressive or on top just because they release a lot of sets, the sets need to have quality too.

Very true, Marc. And then there's the matter of personal taste.

I think you have to be very foolish to publically condemn a manufacturer. Constructive criticism is one thing but blanket condemnations are another.

I'll look at the ACW stuff but WW1 isn't one of my interests.

The previous releases were so poor I think I will pass on this one, I don't see the major improvements really.

I can't really argue with you. I think there are improvements but "soft" detail" is one area where Strelets need to do more.

If HaT ever release their ACW offerings, I think they might give Strelets a run for their money.
