HäT Crowdfunding Touchdown!

Posted by MABO on 22 Feb 2018, 23:11

Finally my sets have arrived today! Hard to believe, but very welcome. It seems to me the plastic is not getting better it is more frangible. I did not have problems with the softer plastic of the later sets but this I did not like.

The figures are still fine.

Hurrah! Hooray! Yippee!

What do you mean? Softer? Please not breakable like BUM plastic!!

I guess I could wait until mine arrive but living in Australia means the Supply Boats need to travel for many months, avoiding krakens & the edge of the world, before they arrive.

Happy to hear you got your sets Jan, have fun with those.

Interesting about the plastic though. I assumed the plastic was changed to address some complaints people had with the "rubbery" plastic (which was chosen by folks in a poll). Marcin, who painted the test shots, said it was like ESCI plastic, which I took to mean fairly soft, very elastic but firm in consistency, not like pencil eraser. Anyway, I'll find out soon enough and I don't think I need to make any changes to most of these figures.

Donald. You know how international distribution networks run. Brisbane gets stuff some time after the Antarctic research bases, Astronauts in The International Space Station, lost tribes in The Amazon, Japanese soldiers in the jungle who don't know the war's over yet, Yettis in The Himalayas, that Troll who lives under the bridge, and the Loch Ness Monster.

Hello Donald,

it is hard for me to describe in English, but the ESCI Plastic is - in my eyes - not so brittle lioke the new HäT Sets. They are not like BUM but some figures have been broken from the groundplates during shipping. So they are less flexible than before.

I hope you can hold them in your hands soon.

Donald , I went out and bought another set, having still not received my crowdfunded sets yet, the plastic is hard but very soft under hot water, and has no memory , so to create variety with these figures is very easy with no need for glue or knife, I am having real fun and success moving the arms so the weapons and shields are in different position to those from the mould.

Although I have quite a few metals in my collection, one of the beauties of plastic figures is the relative ease of modification.

Let's hope the UMs arrive soon.

2 weeks for a box's worth? 3 at the outside.

Quite a demanding one. But painting figures is my relaxation therapy. Also, I don't paint to the diorama standard you see here. Some of my work:

Having not painted a single soldier yet myself, I would say you look pretty accomplished

I'm still refining my technique with washes and dry brushing on building, ruins, and tents and such. Next up horses. Still a ways to go.

A word of advice? Waiting to be perfect will mean a very long wait. Probably an infinite one.
Paint some figures. Make mistakes. Learn. Paint (a lot) more.

Perhaps post photos here? The locals are pretty friendly & will offer supportive advice.

If you want to get GOOD at figure painting, you have arrived at the right spot. And you will have about 30 or more cheerleaders encouraging you to keep up the good work.

Pretty true for anything: only practice makes perfect.

I do like that you can get constructive criticism at Bennos. Endless praise is nice but won't help you improve.

I read some news on line somewhere so I am asking these questions.
Are the extra bonus figures for those that crowd fund cast in metal?
If so what company is making them? BB
