New Italeri ACW Farmhouse 6179

Posted by Traveller1865 on 28 May 2017, 11:53

Italeri have announced their new ACW set, titled "Civil War farmhouse battle set", with buildings and figures, the set seems to contain Italeri's own figures, infantry and cavalry for both sides, the Union artillery set and a barn and a farmhouse in MDF with etched details. So sadly no new figures from Italeri and the artillery set is probably the more common one and not the out of print big set.

An AWI set is also planned for release in 2017.

This has now been released and available to purchase and called "Farmhouse battle", no new content besides the buildings, however a nice surprise is that the kit contains the guns, the gatling gun and siege mortar and more from the now out of print kit 6032 Union artillery set! So a quite expensive set for little new content but a new chance to own the rare kit and new ACW style buildings!

The price was, well, quite steep! But houses do cost, and there are some in the set. Our friend Conny at Fredericus Rex has also some American buildings. Maybe some can be an alternative, and you won't get figures you don't want.

For me this is a collectors item. I have the old ESCI-Sets in my mind, that teally rare and expensive in our days.

But talking about the buildings: the Greenline ones are better, for sure.

I’m still more interested in the Russian houses. Need some more for ww2 Eastern front. Hope to see them sold seperately from the old figure sets.
Got a nice Hamlet build from the Pegasus sets though!

This, a WWII/Desert War-set and some others are available for quite a while already. ;-)

Well, you can get it for 47,- Euros at the moment and it contains at least 5 regular Italeri sets , 2x infantry (6012 + 6014), 2x cavalry (6011 + 6013) and apparently all elements from artillery sets 6032 + 6038 (all guns & figures, the limber from 6038 and the "battlefield accessories" from 6032).
This alone would already cost 40,- if bought separately at an estimated price of 8,- Euros each (without the bonus of having all parts from 2 different artillery sets though).
On top we get 2 newly designed buildings (farm & barn), which seem nice from what one can see online so far.

More details here:
http://www.italeri.com/scheda.asp?idProdotto=2672

In terms of price-performance ratio we could hardly ask for more.
This is a great offer not only for collectors, but also wargamers, diorama builders and people new to the topic or the hobby in general.
To my mind, the individual enthusiast and the hobby in general benefit much more from offerings like this than another dodgy & costly "crowd-funding" with unpredictable outcome.

In general I agree that Connies (Fredericus Rex/Greenline) offerings should be the way more detailed ones. But on the other hand, those are quite costly aswell. So, all well-intentioned comments towards Greenline aside, the "play sets" Italeri is offering over the last 2 years are a great support for the hobby in general.
These sets
- provide good kits & figs at an unbeatable price.
- are attractive for a wide audience (young & old).
- most importantly keeps Italeri interested in 1/72.

As Marc says, looking forward to their "Battle at Malinava 1944" set.
