News from Caesar Miniatures

At a press conference today, a representative of Caesar Miniatures announced a significant change of their future production line.
“We will not produce any WWII Germans any more”, the company’s spokesman said. According to him, there are already “tons of such figure sets” on the market, and, as he further explained, “we don’t see any sense in producing ever more and more of the same boring stuff. There are really more than enough WWII Germans available right now – who needs all this stuff?”
In the future, the spokesman said in addition, Caesar Miniatures will explore a completely new area in the world of 1/72nd scale miniatures: “We will focus our future efforts on one of the most seriously neglected topics in miniature war gaming. Actually, it is hard to understand why almost nobody has done this before. So Caesar Miniatures will start a whole range of figure sets for the Napoleonic era, hoping that this fascinating but totally underrated epoch will gain some appeal in the eyes of miniature collectors and war gamers.”
It was announced that the first batch of Napoleonic figures by Caesar will include 35 different sets of French Line Infantry, 25 sets of Infantry of the Guard, plus at least 20 different sets of French Cavalry.

Hahahaha. I laughed but it is sad.

I don't have any ideas of how many 1/72 boxes are sold every year, but i'm pretty sure that 80% are WWII or Nappies because...the offer is 90% based on this two eras. Obviously projects like minairons are not my target : i do really appreciate that kind of "sub-work" on a major conflict.
the point is : How many boxes must be sold to amortize the cost of developing a new series?

I would have answer the same - hey, remember, we are on April, 1st... :D

Even if I agree with half of what is said: WW2 Germans are boring, and Napoleonic French are boring too :D

My dream would be to have a medieval Burmese army! Well, no... my dream would be to have enough time to paint just 1/10th of the minis I have already bought :D

I read for high class steel moulds producing toy figures on moulding machines the need was to sell 10.000 box sets to recover their total cost. Then it is all down to the wobbly profit margin on the world wide toy market. BB

Update on April 2
Today, another press conference was held, because the announcements made yesterday have apparently caused some confusion.
A company official said that it was certainly a mistake to choose the date of April 1, and that the company will never hold any press conferences on that date again. Actually, there will be no further press conferences at all. All future statements on the company’s plans will be made via the social media platform Fakebook, because, as the company spokesman said, “everybody knows that everything posted on Fakebook is true”.
The company’s management also offers its most sincere apologies for the web link that was published yesterday and that, as it turned out, led to the internet site of The Onion, a satire platform. This was, as the spokesman said, “totally inappropriate and effective measures have been taken to make sure that this will never happen again”. A full report on how this mistake could happen is found here.
