What do you do for fun, beside 1/72 scale?

Posted by hodude on 10 Mar 2015, 15:21

Hello,
I have been part of this community of 1/72 scale collectors for twenty-plus years. I have always been curious what other passions fellow collectors have besides collecting or wargaming 1/72 scale figures.

I know some people are re-enactors or musicians or have interesting jobs like being a chef. What do you guys do?

I am a singer/songwriter on the side. I have a goal of having as many people as possible see my music around the world. Check out my videos:

Here are a few (I have 15 videos, but this would give you an idea):

What other interesting things do we do out there?

Besides painting figures, reading books and watching movies, I collect the special 2 euro coins! ;-)

And I still miss a lot of them, so if someone gets the feeling to help me, you are more as welcome! :-D

I've collected vinylrecords for a couple of years. Have one wall (about 3000-4000 lps) and that will have to be enough (pics on facebook under "Hemma"). Had a little band going for a couple of years. Too much rock'n'roll to get anywhere (a lot of different lineups and two guys no longer among us). If anyone wants a CD I can try to send it. But we have some tunes out on MySpace ( https://myspace.com/tributetothebunker ) (also pics on facebook under "Musik"). Nowadays I walk the dog most of my free time. A boxer and to keep him happy we must have different walks and at the minimum 5 kilometers each day. Keep me healthy I think. :-D And a missus with severe MS keeps me sober.

The cover of the compilation-CD I made when the guy I started the band with died. Terrible sound quality, but I like it.

Wait a minute, Arlin Tawzer. Quite active at Hat some years ago? Did you make the drawings on some of the Airfix rereleases as well as the Babylonian army?

Hello,
Very cool pics! I actually sold off my lp records 10 years ago, they took up so much space. I had some great stuff in there too. Beatles, Rolling Stones, Prince, Michael Jackson, the Doors, Jimi Hendrix.

Yes, I am the Arlin Tawzer that drew poses for HaT many years ago. Those were the days! So, I guess I do like to draw as well. If you noticed in these videos, each one starts with a shot of a whiteboard drawing of scenery before I walk into frame. So they are videos showcasing my songs as well as artwork! ;-)

I think I'll head over and listen to your songs now.

Writing what?

Not wargames' rules?

I've written a SYW set for fun.

Listening to some of your songs, Arlin, makes me miss my old six-stringed banjo. Even went into a musicshop today just to drool over one. :-D But wasn't there a Hat box of Babylonian army in the style of the old Airfix boxes?

@Greg Congratulation
As for me I am also a history fanatic, since I do not accept the way people in my country see history(thru eyes of an epic poetry)...I found out many interesting things that relax me...Now when Greg mentioned he got a child, I made an important discoveries about drastic baby booms at my homeland...For example from 1717 to 1739 when we were under Austrian rule, number of people got from 240 thousand to 400 thousand...

Ah, but do you remember when I helped HaT do an April Fools joke by drawing an Airfix mockup of a "what if" set of Zulu War British? For a moment there was much excitement in the 1/72 collecting world. I learned to never read any HaT announcements on April 1st in subsequent years!
