Chintoys 1/72

Posted by elegantmess on 19 Nov 2024, 18:40

Has anyone else seen the Chintoys Marathon Greeks andPersians?
The pictures I've seen aren't great and I was wondering about their quality.

I have the exact same question. I almost bought some but have not pulled the trigger yet. They are not even listed on Plastic Soldier Review so I am wondering what kind of company they might be?

Peter do you think PSR is worried that these are "Pirated" figures?

They are a bit hit and miss in terms of the figures - some nice poses but the moulding lets them down. Having said that there are some nice figures in there, especially in the Persian set. In the Greek set the psiloi look really good.

Chintoys is a name normally associated with supermarket dinosaurs and army men. I believe som of the early D&D monsters were Chintoys.
I was surprised to see fairly legitimate looking figures from them.

Reason send in PM. It has nothing to do with "pirate figures".

Chintoys is well known under collectors as a brand that produces 54 mm figures. They have a very nice range spread over various periods. When you google them you will see what I mean.

I totally agree with you, Steve. In particular, the king or high ranking officer, the lady, the parasol holder, the walking guards and the Lamasu winged bull figure look very nice to make a little diorama with them. :-)

Santi.

The 'Immortal' figure reminds me of that wonderful parade from Persepolis in the 70s

I think that was when I fell in love with Persians as a wargames army.

Great video! The boats are giving me ideas.
Some of the figures reminded me of Linear-A,but it looks like maybe the same source material.

I think it coloured a lot of people's thinking. I believe the Shah used contacts in Hollywood as part of the staging, so it got the technicolour treatment, still I was impressed, because the images are recreations of the bas-reliefs at Persepolis.

Thank you, here is a longer video.

I have the Persians and they are great figures. The Greeks I am not so much convinced by them, so I haven't bought them yet. The Persians have really intricate details on them, I think they've been sculpted on 3d, but they still look lively.

Pity that they haven't made anymore 1/72 sets.

I dunno about the Greeks and Persians but I do like Chintoys Napoleonic general staff sets. I took a break a few months unsure if I would ever go back to painting. Turns out I was painting for the wrong reasons = trying to produce numbers instead of painting as a meditation and enjoyment of process. I've painted up a few more and rediscovered the pleasure of our great hobby. Will post some pictures when I can steal the wife's Iphone.

Sound like a lot of ideas coming up in your mind. But meditation is more important than numbers for sure, even if you have to paint numbers you should keep this in mind. It is still only an hobby. I am really interested in the pics. The Napoleonic staff is not in 1//2 scale, isn't it?

Hi mabo. The Napoleonic sets are the big guys, like 1/52 scale I think? Lots of detail makes them fun to paint with no eye strain either. I though all Chintoys were big like those. Whoops!
Cheers,
Bessiere.
