Any under 30's?

Posted by Dad's Army on 06 Mar 2021, 14:49

Thanks guys for the Ice cream, keep sending
I am also over 30, almost twice (58) and got int the hobby later.
As a kid I was mor enjoying the model kids of WW2 stuff.
Every weekend we went from Amsterdam to the campingsite
It was next to a army base, so I played in the old sherman tanks they used for practice.
In the holidays you where happy when the solders went by, sometime they let carry there weapons.
You can imagine how lucky you felt then. Looking for blanks that she used during the many exercises.
Those where the times... and there came the love for the many modelkits I made.

Later I became a dad of 2 fantastic children, from who my son discovered the painting of figures.
First Wharhammer, but later 20mm because he could buy more for less money.
I decided to join him in his hobby later on, but will never get his skils for sure.
He started this forum, and I like to have some time with our hobby together.
Now he got his own family, so dad left with his hobby, thats how it went.
I prefer the bigger figures 25-30 mm because my eyes getting worse.
And non violent because I mainly paint at my wife her house, so I love non violent the most.
These figures are hard to find, cause the most have a weapon in there hands, or on them.

So no I am not 30, but my son when he was under 30 started this hobby and forum.
Therefore I am not surprised to see more younger members. :yeah:

the 1/72 scale definitly lacks some good YouTube-content to attract more young people!

I am 49 years old, I started with 1/72 and thanks to a neighbor who was a great painter of Sci battles ... the first time I went to his house I think I was in shock to see several beautifully painted dioramas and now after many years and an interruption of 15 years because I found myself again with brushes and I usually work on several scales but I only have one love (my wife and 1/72) ... well there are two.
I am not very optimistic about the generational change but this thread is making me change my mind.
Thanks to this forum I can say that I have friends that although I never meet in person it does not matter., Gunnar, Remco, Dali, Santi, Peter, Konrad, Michael, Thomas, Kostis ... and more.
Santi.

Harry in 1969 I was 6 years old but I had buckets of original Airfix figures manning my forts constructed in my backyard sandbox. Many legendary battles were fought out with every neighborhood kid in a 3 block area.

I cannot remember a time in my life when I didnt have 1/72 toy soldiers to play with!

Santi.

I suscribe totally the thinkings of my namesake Santi. I'm now 58 and, after more than 40 years dedicated to the hobby and some years being only a visitor to this forum, I felt happy when I finally decided to joing this great and lovely family. Because I really feel many of you as friends or family, even though we have never met in person, as Santi said.

Best wishes to all of you, my friends. :love1:

Santi.

I am already 58 years old. I've known the 1:72 scale since I was a child - that's why I ultimately stuck with it. And I like the Wargaming stuff even when I'm not playing it myself. But I've already used a lot of the Wargaming stuff for my Dios. Greetings, Jens Hilgraf

Hi guys,

i'm almost 59 although my wife keeps telliing me that i will never grow up. :-D and her name is mrs alwaysright... so..

I also started like the most of us with the old airfix figures. I still remember playing with the romans who were fighting robin hood and his merry man :-D When i got older i lost interest so everything i had those day dissapeared. When my children got a little bit older i got more time so about 15/16 years ago i came back into the hobby again (although i must confess that sometimes i dont do anything for months)

But even in the periodes that i dont do anything i still look daily at bennos (which im a member of since 2008 ) just to see what wonderfull work you guys are showing.

so thanks for that and.... keep those pictures coming :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

I started in high school making tank models and WW2 in 1/35 scale. I also made some ESCI Romans and Carthaginians and the Accurate french and English knights. I put all that away until my mid thirties when I discovered them again and remembered the games I wanted to play with them... got a little carried way with it.

I was also big into the Age of Empires computer game series, So even though I have not really ever played a war game, I have played it out countless times in the digital world... but wanting to create my own world/ game that is not just based on numbers of units and DPS.
