Natal Carabineers?

Posted by Ochoin on 07 Jan 2021, 10:57

My British Zulu Wars force is a bit light on mounted troops (not unlike Chelmsford in reality).

I already have a unit of the Newline NMP figures but I've bought more figures from Newline for another, different unit (9 mounted, 8 dismounted + horse holder & nags).

There were several of the volunteer units wearing this uniform, though in different colours eg the Natal Carabineers:

Good choice? Other suggestions (NB the figures are all sun-helmeted & the rank & file wear plain, un-embroidered jackets).

A fine choice in my book Donald. Carry on and post images when you are done!

Thanks, Paul.
There's not as much on the web about AZW uniforms as you'd think.

The other beauty I bought from Newline was this:
https://newlinedesigns.co.uk/product/st ... -casualty/

I have an idea about a scenario where a field hospital is attacked & relieved.

The front figure is, I'm assuming, medical personnel. Plain blue uniform & white kepi? Any other details?
I'll go looking & hope I find something.

Found this:
http://www.redcoatmodelsshop.com/zulu-war.php

So a hospital orderly has lack collar, piped red, red piping on its trousers, red trefoil on the cuffs & this interesting red cross arm badge.

The other bearer will just be an infantryman & the casualty......anyone from a squaddie to a (somehow) rescued Prince Imperiale.

Possibilities are endless.

The braided jacket guys are such a big gap, I have begged Hat to make them, and it would be relatively easy in our cad age to use the mounted infantry set as a start point and make the changes needed.

If you go back far enough you will see a conversion I did on the old Hat forum of the stretcher bearers , that is pretty much a copy of mine, well done Newline.

Thanks for that.

I'd agree with the benefits of HaT expanding the scope of its AZW mounted force.

I'm planning a game on Dartnell's recce prior to Islandlewana. As you'd know, this was all mounted troops on the British side.

I'd also like Newline to do some mounted figures in pillbox caps. They'd also be useful.
