WWII Fallschirmjäger & Gebirgsjäger comparison

Posted by Erich von Manstein on 23 Mar 2020, 22:37

After yesterdays comparison of western allied WWII Paras, its time to have a look at the equivalent axis forces. Namely german Fallschirmjäger and Gebirgsjäger.
Since these specialised troops took part in many prominent battles & campaigns, its no surprise that several manufacturers tried to do them justice in 1/72.

a = Esci 244/Italeri 6045 - German Paratroopers
b = Revell 02500 - German Paratroopers
c = Italeri 6134 - German Paratroops (Tropical Uniform)
d = Zvezda 6136 - German Paratroops (AoT Set)
e = Pegasus 7224 - German Fallschirmjäger
f = Caesar H068 - WWII German Paratroopers
g = Orion 72018 - German Paratroopers
h = Caesar H098 - WWII German Fallschirmjäger Heavy Weapons

Included all noteworthy & commonly available 1/72 plastic sets I‘m preferentially using myself.
Although the subject is popular among hobbyists, for many years we only had a few insufficient sets to hand (1/76 Airfix dwarves, useless Esci and crude Revell).
Thankfully the situation changed during the last decade (new Italeri, Caesar & Pegasus). :thumbup:

k = Airfix 01752 - German Mountain Troops
l = Zvezda 6154 - German Gebirgsjäger (AoT Set)
m = Caesar H067 - German Mountain Troops

Unfortunately, this subject didn‘t receive an appropriate coverage in 1/72 plastic till now. So the small Airfix veterans still have to serve alongside their Caesar reinforcements. ;-)

Because PSR hasn‘t updated its respective comparison-pictures so far, maybe this proves useful for some?

Happy modelling! :thumbup:

Nice comparison shots! On the Zvezda hard plastic sets, I remove the bases or grind them way down, that way they fit well with other manufactures. :)

The WWII German Paratroopers were the very last release of ESCI figures, correct? All the beauty, and flaws, of that company's output--but magnified.

Think that’s correct,
And the revell Fallschirmjäger were one of their first along with ww1 French. Both flat headed. Never my favourites.
But the Caesar sets are okay, Pegasus and Italeri the best (but the latter minus some wrong so useless poses). Well, in my opinion of course.
Still don’t know if I’m gonna use the Orion set. But probably some poses nonetheless?
