Very good post! I too have a split (scale) personality when it comes to Napoleonic miniatures, in the end my rationale for building armies in 1/72 and 28mm was that the Perry plastics are for 1815 so my 1/72 are all from 1809-1812. Except for the Italeri British and French in my stash that I purchased years ago. So I told myself I wouldn't paint those. Except lately I have been thinking well if my 1815 forces in 28mm are just French vs. Prussians then I can do 1815 British in 1/72, but then they will need French opposition...and so it goes...
It's even worse in World War II, not only do I have 1/72 and 28mm but I also have 15mm! Multiple personalities indeed...
