Any experience With Mega Miniatures or Thunderbolt Mountain?

Posted by carlosfaro on 12 Dec 2017, 21:58

Hi, I found in the web several metal figures which look quite nice for HIgh Noble medieval personalities.

They seem to be "real 25mm" scale, that means, the y maybe can match 1/72 good in the bigger side

Maybe some of you have these figures and can share how they compare to 1/72..??

The figs can be ordered directly at the manufacturers (even if they are really old ragnes!) but I am afraid they at the end result too big....

Here further info and pics, even a slight size comparison:

Mega Minies, under" Medieval" ranges have The Royal Court but also Religious Men and Folkwotn figures
Prices are really appealing in this case

Thunderbolt Mountain
Here there is a 25mm "Leganday figures" (Arhuric) with noble ladies and Knights. , and also a "Common folk" range with still many interesting figs

https://www.thunderboltmountain.com/collections/all

Prices are higher this time (bigger than VAldenar for instance, but indeed figs are too beautiuil and detailed) Foot seem to be ok,m but I feel horses are too bad

Here a pair of interesting pictures:

The above pic is mine. :)
I can vouch for TM--at least the peasants--being useful for 1/72, if on the larger side.

Thunderbolt Mountain, the "Legendary figures" range , while being very nice models are WAY too big to place next to anything that has so far appeared on PSR, they are closer (a tiny bit smaller) to reaper 25mm

Yeah, from what I've seen the mounted/knight TM are a lot larger than the peasant figures. That said, I still think the 'Common Folk' range are useful.

hello! I finally received the damsels from Thunderbolt Mountain Minis,

I am quite impressed by the figures!!! So beautiful.. And you will not believe this, and I hate to tell Paul that he was wrong.. THEY ACTUALLY MATCH 1/72!!

foot figures are in my opinion 1/72, maybe in the big side but no extremely big...

And about the mounted ..., yes, their nags are big..but not extreme at all.. Please better have a look at the pictures.. They do stand Ok next to one Strelets medieval horse (these horses are also on the big side.. but they look nice together)

I got a Lady (mounted and foot>), Queen Genivere (mounted and foot) and Morgane Le FAy (only mounted, caparisoned horse) My budget was at the limit, but now I reget not having purchased more.. (the site closed definetely on 25th dec)

Thanks for showing us those comparison photographs. I agree with you, the displayed figures from different producers do work quite well together.

I am glad I chose these

I think even the knights can be combined with 1/72 when you exchange the heads and maybe also hands

The Knights...not the soldiers
Image
From left to right, Games Workshop Elf, TM, Knight, Sir bruse (https://www.thunderboltmountain.com/pro ... -sir-bruse) and valdemar.
Take into account the Knight is leaning into the blow so has lost a bit of height and, if he was stood up straight would be the same height as the GW elf..ie; 28mm
They are labelled as 25mm but so were Old Glory25´s which obviously also aren´t 1/72nd

Indeed that knight is way too big...the soldiers from Eric are from commin folk range which seems closer to 1:72 than legendary range... maybe for some special charachter they would be interesting but they would always tower over normal 1/72

The damsels were fortunately smaller

The 'Mountain that Rides' mayhaps? :-D

Just lop off the crest and add a fist and there you go. For the mounted one, you could put him on a plastic 1/72 horse to emphasize his vastness...

I used the TM mini in the photo at the top of the thread for Sir Duncan the Tall, from GRRM's Hedge Knight stories. So yeah, there are definitely uses for the TM Common Folk line--and the knights in specific cases--for 1/72 enthusiasts.

.

There might be a Problem with that. The mounted ones I have, have the legs molded on the horse.
