Krupp

Posted by Ochoin on 26 Apr 2017, 12:49

I have a desire to add a Krupp gun to my Mahdist forces (I have a crew, modified from various figures from the Italeri Moslem Warriors set). At 1/72 of course.

Any ideas?

Wouldn't the gunners be in Egyptian uniform? The crews were captured at the same time as the guns and "forced" to man them.

I had a look at PSR & I think you're right. These guns will do nicely. Thanks.

Not "forced" but forced. Slatin, an eye-witness as I'm sure you know, describes captured Egyptian gunners being stripped & beaten, given ragged clothes to wear & being manacled. These were the "lucky" (note: correct use of quotation marks) ones & only kept alive for their expertise with artillery. Captured Sudanese in Egyptian service, he tells us, were somewhat better treated.....but many deserted back to the Egyptians when the opportunity arose.

Others have a different view but whether "under pain of death" or of their own will, they did what needed to be done to stay alive.
