Hat Bavarians

Posted by davbenbak1 on 27 Jan 2017, 16:56

Rather than performing an exhaustive google search I thought I would ask the forum if the two available boxes of Hat Bavarians are all that are needed to build a couple of battalions. A quick search of my sources on hand don't give a good break down of how their battalions were organized and therefor what figures would be needed.

Replying at this forum just to let questioner & audience know that you gave an answer at another forum without offering the inquired information here as well, could indeed be interpreted as being a little hostile & grumpy by some. :eh:
A simple copy & paste job would've been an easy way to share your contribution with this specific forum crowd here too.

@davbenbak1
In german language, but maybe it can be useful?

I quote

Both boxes will give you more than enough for two battalions, with spares left over to paint as light infantry. You will need to convert some standard bearers – pick a suitable pose, remove weapon etc and replace with brass wire

The artillery set has a lot of figures, including some that make extra officers or conversion fodder for standard bearers – esp the guy carrying the cartridge"

Wasn't being grumpy - don't be too sensitive to forum posts please. They are just words, and not actual speech. I am very rarely grumpy with plastic toy soldier fans.

Thanks again Marc. Bavarians are on their way from Mich Toy Co. Also the corresponding Osprey book since it was listed as a source in the PSR review.

@Manstein Great source but is there a way to translate? Please forgive my lack of knowledge but I thought Windows Explorer had a translation tool but I can't find it.

You could try the "Google" translating machine.
As English obviously is not my first language, I also have to consult online dictionaries every now and then.
From my perspective "Linguee" and "Leo" are two useful and easy to navigate sites.
Not sure what would be the ideal translation tool when it comes to specialist terms for 19th century military history though.

As you've implied already, the mentioned site is quite helpful.
Hope you'll manage to translate the general oob/army structure and specific unit compositions you're looking for!

Good luck with your project!

Must be a first that somebody suggests I would react oversensitive.
Actually I was just wondering why you didn't post your answer here as well.
More a question of general netiquette than personal sensitivities.
Thanks for the subsequent delivery of your input anyway.

And useful for me as well Eric. I frequent a lot of forums, so assume most others do too (if not, people are missing out), so when I had already replied on TMP I figured I would just steer the conversation there.

But live and learn :-)

Wow! Being someone for whom English is a second (or maybe third) language, your punctuation and grammar is excellent. Thanks for the google tip and thanks again for your response.
