A reasonable conversion from this set to a French SYW unit?

That might work. You would need to make the cuffs larger and change the saddlecloth.
The only downside is that some of the figures have a more narrow crossbelt going from top left to bottom right, while the Schomberg dragoons have a more wider crossbelt going from top right to bottom left. That might be difficult to change.
