Ethics

Posted by M. Hazelton on 08 Apr 2009, 18:09

Hi Ya'll
Just had a question for ya'll. In your humble opinion, is it ethical to make a mold of either a modified or regular Risk figure, and make copies for my own use (Not to sell)?

If you don't sell the clones, I think there is no problem! ;-)

If it's just for you and a few hundred close friends (193 or so), then I have no problem with it.

as long as there is no commercial gain, so you could theoretically share them with us, we won´t mention it to the IRS :cowboy:

First he makes an attempt taking over the forum, and now duplicating figures  . You're on the wrong way my little friend

Good advice of the others.

Hi,
Duplication for own use.
I've done that with several figs and made them in tin.
I don't see any harm in that and not done for commercial reasons.

It harms the producer of the game. Because you're making illegal copies he's missing out on income from games he's not selling, and if enough people do this, it will harm the industry, like it is doing with cd's and dvd's.

Why not conact the producer instead and ask if you can get those figures from him, for a reasonable price?

Hi Maurice,
They don't sell them seperately. You have to buy the whole game. Also, it doesn't hurt them at all. If I want to play Risk, I buy a risk game, not the soldiers.

I wouldn't feel too bad about duplicating some, not even I e gave some away for free.

But then again, how would you copy them ? I often thought about how to make wheels for example.
So my question is:
How do I make molds and alike ??

Greetings !
Marc.

That is true and i agree with you Maurice, If I need extras then I just mass buy or convert, but look at the price of the new Italeri napoleonic officer set 17.50€ for 10 bods!!!!! and then it´s limited. That´ll lead to people making copies at some point or dealers buying up masses of them when they come out, holding on to them for a while and the charging a fortune later.

Its nothing wrong to make duplicates of figures...
First of all, tell me who will prove You that You hava made a copy? Who and how?

Secondly, If You dont want to sell them, where is the problem?!

Dont be funny, it is the same when You play other games in wich you use pawns and when You lost it you started using buttons instead.

Treat this soldiers as a pawns, they ara only addition to this game.

Moreover- in my opinion there is no ethic problem. :)
