Zvezda Republican Roman Cavalry. Very nice figures. Also you could by some Hat to bulk up the ranks!

Zvezda cavalry is a "must" for me...
But, if you have some money to spent, you can mix them with Hät cavalry men...

About Zvezda roman infantry, I would use only the Triarii and Velites figures for roman legions.

In fact, I would make the roman legion like that :
Zvezda triarii (look more rich and elite troops than the Hät ones)
Hät Principes (look more republican and "levy" troops than the Zvezda ones)
Hät Hastatii (same remark than above)
Zvezda and Hät Velites

But I would use the other figurines for the legions from allied nations :
Hät Triarii (not so much in allied legions...)
Zvezda principes
Zvezda Hastatii
Zvezda and Hät Velites

For me, Zvezda Principes and Hastatii don't look really roman... and seem better for allied nations.

Just an affair of taste

Luchs, Early or late republican? For the early then Zvezda, for later then Italeri when they started to get more uniform in dress. Also don´t forget the numidian, german, celt, spanish and and ....allied cavalry

If it´s just the cavalry then mix the zvezda and Italeri sets, swapping horses and heads etc. The hat ones are a bit too small and ´Lifeless´It´s a matter of choice ;-)

If you want to re-do Telemon battle, I think you can use only Zvezda boxes...
But, you could also use the two Hät italian allies boxes...

If you want to fight against Brennus' gauls, you would perhaps have to look at the Hät etruscan box...

Looking at HaT's Etruscans is unfortunately still all you can do - they've been stuck in a time-warp for around two years now!

For late Republicans - Marius to Caesar - I still prefer the Italeri set - with fine-nose pliars and twisting of limbs and neck the two main poses can be usefully varied - even the guy with shield above head, although switching his sword to the right side if you want to be pedantic is a bit of a pain...

Not got the Caesar Caesarians yet - they look a reasonable match, although according to PSR the look of the mail is a bit botched...

The Caeser bods are a good match, even though they don´t supply the complete range of officers :boink: and you have to plunder from other sets. Which set is the Hat etruscans everyone keeps refering to? The italian allies?
