Hey Benno,

I was just wondering, what would it take to put tags in sections like WIP or Pictures, (or other applicable sections) such as "Modern" "WWII" "WWI" "ACW" "Medieval" "100YW" "Colonial" "Nappies" (etc)?

I'm kind of taking the idea from armorama, but it seems like as the forum expands, it might be easier for browsing a certain period versus searching specifically for one thread.

Just thinking out loud... :affraid:

Take care,
Austin

I asked this ages ago. The version of the forum software we're running here doesn't allow it, which is a great pity. I can see the tags now: Paul, Tompkins, Boom, Bomb, Gunpowder, Again, Ouch!

It certainly would be helpful but it also would serve to divide the forum into 'camps' .

I'm planning to implement this feature when I update the forum software.

And of course misuse of the tags won't be allowed. ;-)

Hmmm, I guess I was thinking more of how armorama does it. Here is their armor/afv forum page. If you look below the green with the page numbers (in the tan), they have "discussion groups". I guess that's more of what I meant. If you click on one of the discussion groups it displays all topics from that discussion group, and makes browsing pretty hassle-free.

Either way, looking forward to it!

Take care,
Austin

edit:fixed the loose tag

OOOh that looks dread complicated and very specialist group orientated,. Not at all my thing, here it works cos we all spread out over each others periods and have an interest in each other not just the painting / projects whatever.
Such a thing IMHO would kill the fun here.

I have to say I agree with Paul,Randall and Gunnar.I think it might split the forum up a bit.At the momment people check out other people works that they might not normally look at.
But it's up to Benno, and its his forum.Does this mean we would get an AFV section(Without figures    ).
As long as it doesn't end up like Airfix tribute forum, where a wrong post in the wrong topic gets you in the poo,and makes you feel like a t@~t.

I was more thinking about a function that allows people to add tags to their topics. They will be preset tags so people won't be able to misuse them by adding all sorts of nonsense tags.

I won't split up the forum. The tags will be an extra function to find topics and discussions that match your interest.

Sounds fine.  The thing about this forum is.....well, the way it is. Other forums seem to be very "sectionalised", with the experts in thier particular fields sitting like spiders in thier webs (excuse the pun) waiting for the next victim to slag off and that´s all. As Rich says, make the "mistake" of posting (either a picture or comment)in the wrong section and you´re made to feel a t@~t in very short order. Here we all take interest in each others comments and projects etc. Ok sometimes that interest etc can be silly and or unwelcome but it all seems to work fine.
Pretty open and friendly if you ask me. :-) :-)

Well Paul when it does happen just keep a rubber hose handy and use it on the ones that start acting that way, I won't like it if it turns into what you describe either. But I think we are all pretty good at not trouncing people so I don't think it'll happen too often. I do enjoy reading the whole forum and if people want to stick to a small section (when updated) that's their loss.
