Italeri SS-troops [WARNING: Lot's of photo's]

Posted by rubenvanginkel on 20 May 2008, 14:43

Hey there!
Even though I go through the hell called 'exams' right now, I took today some photo's of my current project: German SS-troops.
Heeding the advice of Christiaan I painted them in a camouflage-scheme, and I really like how they turned out.
Well, I won't keep you guys longing for these photo's, here they are:

thank you! I was also rather proud of the officer's face. I still have yet to develop a way to paint appropriate faces. Usually I paint the face in a flesh tone, apply a brown wash and after that I highlight the upper area's such as nose and cheeks. This one turned out rather nicely.
Also thanks for the camo, I struggled a couple of time with test-subjects to get the camo just right.

Hi Ruben,

Since I have superfast internet, I don't care about a photo more or less.
Like the others: the camo is very good.
I can't do that.
The faces: I noticed, you have painted the eyes like small black spots.
From a distance it'll look fine but on a photo from very close it looks a but odd.
Perhaps Benno has some tips to make it look better.

1. Use a very very small brush with a very steady hand
2. Just don't paint them

Ah, thanks Benno and Martin!

I'm now spending more time on faces, and I use another method of painting them. A tad bit more time consuming, but the results are, according to my paintingskills, great! I'll post some pics tomorrow.

Cheers,
Ruben

I like them. The camo is nicely done. The Germans had a lot of patterns for camo and most of them are extremely hard to reproduce in 1/72 scale. Excellent work overall.
