1/72 unfinished Alexandrian DBA army

Posted by blacksmith on 19 Apr 2026, 20:42

Hello, I discovered these pictures from long ago (2008) of an army I started with Zvezda Greeks and Macedonians together with a friend of mine who bought Persians, but as he never even started to paint them so I abandoned the project which later ended in the trash when I moved to another house. These pics are what it remains from them.
I remember I painted them with diluted paint and a cover of stained varnish.

Love the infantry, not too keen on the cavalry.

Nice to see the Greeks in action.

The shields look lovely.

Best wishes,

That's funny, for me it is the other way round: My favorite is the cavalry, I think it nicely captures the colorful appearance of a Macedonian army of that era.

Cavalry choice of colours - red, purple & gold. This is bold.

IMO this is a good choice for Alexander's Companions who would have been both well born & the recipients of much plunder. I think they should look splendid.

And they really do, after your paintwork, I like them all and I am waiting for the rest of the army!

Thank you but as I said above, they are lost forever so there won't be anymore of them in the future.

It’s a shame you’ve lost the originals of that fantastic army, Javier. At least you’ve still got the pictures, which is better than nothing. That’s why it’s so important to take photos of our work (not just so we can enjoy them on Benno’s forum). ;-)

 I was so catched by the pictures, that I have did not read the text completely. And normally you presented full armies here. Next time I will be more precise.
