Giant - Cowboys and Indians

Ladies and gentlemen, these figures that you are about to see are 56 years old. I never painted a single one of them and they have been in a box for a very long time. Maybe to long, but they are in a very good condition. Better as I thought.

The story behind this old figures

It must have been in the year 1971, the first year that I went to the big school, learning to read and write. And the older ones among us, remember maybe that you could buy this kind of figures in book- and toyshops for a very low price. It was in a bookshop that I saw them for the first time and I wanted to have them. This bag:

So I asked my mother and father if they could buy them for me, but they replied, only when I had a good end result at school that year. No problem because I had no problems with learning, so that was a piece of cake. And when I came back with the result they gave me the money to buy them right away. But as yo think that the story is at the end, it isn't. When I came home with them and I wanted to play, and I remember it very well, my dad told me to keep the bag closed because we were of for the summer holliday and my dad didn't want those small things with us on holliday. So they had to stay home for two weeks. It was a very wise decision of my dad (bless him) because we all know when playing with these little soldiers in the sand it is easy to loose them. And so now here are some of them painted, maybe a bit to honor my father.

I've got more of them unpainted but the goal was to paint one figure of each pose, cowboys and indians.

Wow, Peter, you've done a great job painting these figures, which aren't very good quality.

And this post has reminded me that among the 1/72 scale plastic soldiers I've kept from my childhood (more than 50 years ago), I have some of these. I've identified them by their poses, as I never knew who made them and I don't remember how they came into my possession. :-D

@Santi: I'm still collecting these and others of that brand. This page on PSR is a good guide:

Thanks, Peter. I was already familiar with that section of PSR; in fact, I consult it often, although I had never paid particular attention to Giant's figures until your post.

Very sentimental, Peter! I like that. And you did a good job painting them.

Never had any of these, but brother-in-law had. And I found one of these horses when I was digging for potatoes.

I have them as well, but I didn't think about painting them. But your super result shows them in a completely new perspective! Thanks for sharing!
