Pharaoh's Chariot

Posted by Kaiphranos on 26 Aug 2022, 19:43

I picked up a copy of Caesar's "Pharaoh's Chariot with Biblical Peasant" set a while back, figuring that it might be nice to have Pharaoh available to lead his army. Since then, I've painted a few of the peasants here and there, but having volunteered to run a game at our club's convention in September, I figured I'd better get Pharaoh himself ready:

(The trumpeter was included as a bonus figure in the Caesar Sea Peoples set.)

And one bonus in-progress shot of Pharaoh himself:

Really nice. The skin tone on the Pharaoh is particularly good!

All in this work is wonderful, Kaiphranos: the chariot, the horses, the base and the figures. My favourite is the Pharaoh.

This is one of the projects I hope to be able to do in the future, these Chariot Miniatures figures are amazing. ;-)

Very beautiful work. I especially like the work on the horse harnesses and the detail around the Pharaoh's neck. I'll have to get to work on my own version someday.

Very nicely painted chariot and figures. As the others I like your skin tones a lot, esp the Pharoah. The intricate detail on the chariot and horse blankets shows how adept you are with the paintbrush but if you may accept a little advice it would be to get some humbrol paints, choose two or three sandy colours and paint them over your sandy base. Unpainted sand at this scale seems out of scale. Once the humbrols are dry, mix a very dilute dark brown mix, not black mind you, and wash it over your sandy base! The diluted paint will run into all of the little dark areas and your sand will look in scale. Then use 2/3 pale colours (Unbleached linen/white mix could be for the final highlight) to dry brush progressively lighter colours to highlight the sand and you will suddenly have a base in scale….. which will do justice to your beautiful minis. If you lack confidence doing it on your finished base make another base similar to the one used and try out - you will soon realize how simple but effective the above techniques are! ( I would suggest you might even try out one or two other fine particles such as baking powder, dry sifted soil, woodland scenics fine ballast to add further interest and even greater realism to your bases)!

Very good work! Maybe a bit too glossy, but this depends on personal taste. The brushwork and your choice of clours is top notch!

Thanks, Phil! I based it on some murals (or maybe reconstructions of murals) that I found online showing hunting scenes.
