Some more Late Antiquity stuff

Not so much new units as completed units. I've added command figures to both cataphracts & Huns.
They're Tumbling Dice figures of course.

Those cataphracts look grrat. O already owned the command figs, but the regular horsemen are so good. I consider bringing them not only for my Romans or Byzantinians, but maybe for knoghts of Dol Amroth in Lord of the Riongs

Thanks. When it comes to 20mm Late Antiquity figures, I think Tumbling Dice trumps both Newline & HaT.
They have a presence & a lot of character.

I wonder why they never had a bigger impact? Not enough of them? Was it simply the missing stirrups that lessened their effectiveness? Did you need an arrogant nobility to take on this role?

Lovely painted figures. So late Roman was considered when? 3-400 AD? I’m amazed how much they look like medieval knights from almost a millennia later.

Well, stirrups indeed are a huge difference. These heavy cavalrt usted 2hd lances and horses did not gallop but trot. Style should be very different from medieval knights.

Actually they had to be useful to some extent, as first achemenids followed by seleucids and the parthians and sassaniods as Well as different sarmatian tribes always usted this kind of troops, and if Rome was to copy them was because they had yo be useful...romans were quite práctical... Just my opinion

From AD250-450. Cataphracts are mentioned from the time of Hadrian (AD138)or possibly earlier.
They were never very numerous.

Carlos probably has hit it - lack of stirrups meant they couldn't match the unstoppable charge of medieval knights.

Fine looking figures, and nicely-painted as usual. Those Tumbling Dice 1/72 figures always look good. A fine addition to your armies, donald.

I also know now where French, Burgundian etc knights of the medieval period got the idea for 'candy stripe' lances from!
