E100 Sechsfüssler / Diorama 1:72

Posted by T. Dürrschmidt on 15 May 2022, 18:58

Hi folks,

my latest work is finished. A E100-Sechsfüssler (Six-footed), a model by "Model Collect". A brand I know very well meanwhile....I did their "Ratte" some time ago. And like the Ratte this was also a quite unpleasant kit to build. Mould lines, flashes, some errors in the instruction manual....and promoted as totally moveable....in theory.

The kit was also upgraded with numerous items (like metal barrels) and spare parts from other models to make it more interesting.

I planned to paint it with a complicated camo scheme by using stencils but after some painting fails I decided to give it a color modulation just in dark yellow, with some weathering afterwards....but I like the appearance like it is. Why camo painting? It is too big to hide effectively.

I am a fan of utopic war machines and I like to give them a "history-like" setting....sometimes this causes funny reactions from "non technical people" at exhibitions...."what´s that, did they really build this.?..I heard about it, it´s the Maus tank."

The armored car is a Sd-Kfz 247 by "first to fight". And I added three British paratroopers, ambushing the walker or the command car with satchel charges to give the scene some extra action.

Figs are pewter and resin by different manufacturers (Munich kits, Caesar, AB, GeBo, TQD).....in cold weather gear....so the photo background does not fit 100% today.

Have fun watching the pictures.....

Thomas

Congratulations Thomas, I think this is absolutely superb. The figures look very good and the poses are really well thought through. The groundwork/basing is really effective and realistic. And the 'E100-Sechsfüssler'...just brilliant. This may be my favourite forum contribution of 2022 so far...

Your painting makes that fantasy machine look thoroughly believable Thomas, I can almost see the legs of the walker moving.

Great work on the figures too, the camouflage clothing is excellent.

Okay, this is too much fun. The model building, figure painting and terrain are all top notch and the theme totally wacky. I agree with Rich, possibly my favourite diorama this year. And I like the dunkelgelb - you’re right, you’re not about to hide that critter!

You are a genius my Bavarian friend. Just simply a genius.

I have been admiring your work for now well into a second decade, and I would have to put this one into my top 5 Thomas Dürrschmidt creations.

Remarkable modelling and photography. The paintwork on the E100 and armoured car is excellent, as are the figures.

I think I now know where The Empire (Star Wars) got the inspiration for its AT-AT Walkers from... :-)

Absolutely great work. Lovely and interesting composition. Much detail to admire and a theatrical scene, with a little bit of drama. Lovely!

Cool diorama, amazing walker. It reminds me a little bit of Wild Wild West movie.

I'm not big on imaginary war machines but some are exceptionally created and well-executed and enjoyable to view, like yours. Just watch, someone will be posting pictures on the net claiming Germany had secret weapons and even took color photos of it in action in Bavaria!

Hello Thomas
As all others I am impressed with your modelling, painting and creating such a model.
I am also reminded of this crazy Wild Wild West movie.
Imagining further I cannot see the use of such kind of war machine. As mentioned earlier, very vulnerable. The sechsfuessler seems to me like some humoristic variant on the theme of Wunderwaffe, the not funny at all promised weapon to turn the tides of war.
Glad you made it
Greetings
Michael

As Kostis said, not only a wonderful diorama (the figures, the war machine, the scenery, all in it is amazing), but also a very complete photo report. Great work, Thomas! :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
