Battle of Antietam ( Sharpsburg ) 17th September 1862

Timeline 11.15AM

The Union Third Division from Burnside’s Ninth Corps, Brigadier General Issac P Rodman commanding, is marching towards the Snavelly ford in an attempt to outflank the Confederate position.The Ninth New York, Lt. Colonel Edgar A Kimball commanding leads the way.

This movement is being observed by elements of Colonel Thomas T. Munford’s Confederate cavalry brigade reporting back to the high command.

The Union, Brigadier General William French's division has successfully forced its way into the sunken lane and the Confederate defence is being severely dislocated. Union reinforcements are eager to expand the breach. Hurrah for the Union, forward!

Beautiful work, as always, Chris. I especially like the distance shot of the troops marching along Antietam Creek. I hope we'll get a closer look at the New York Zouaves in the future. And I'm glad to see that you were able to be lured from the Continent back to Maryland. ("From hill to hill, from creek to creek, Potomac calls to Chesapeake.")
