Zvezda Vikings as Rohirrim

Posted by blacksmith on 11 Sep 2021, 14:09

I decided to paint one sprue from the Zvezda Viking box as Rohirrim to match them with the Steppe Cavalry from Dark Alliance miniatures as they don't sell infantry from Rohan.

I think they turned out okay but I won't be painting the rest of the box as them because I also want to use these miniatures as actual Vikings and I like Vikings with not so dull colours.

These are all the miniatures contained in one sprue. The box includes three sprues like this one plus a little one with two commanding figures, a general and a standard.

This figure with the cloak is the most similar one to those from the movie.

Excellen painting as always Javier!! I have always leaned towards Normans as Rohirrim but those Vikings may actually be better. I have 3 unopened boxes of Zvezda Vikings I may paint them as Rohan foot. Great idea thanks!!

Carlos, I replied to your last message. Using Goths as Rohirrim is a good idea as well. ¡Nos leemos! ;-)

Thanks for your kind words Paul. Yes, I think Vikings looks better than Normans as Rohirrim.

Very nice, they have a sort of mystic feeling ;) . And they would still work great as a particular Viking raiding party!

Close ups are always unforgiving but also revealing, and I think these reveal that you have a very steady hand and that you paint beautifully. I love that they will do double duty as Vikings - my kind of economizing!!

Unforgiving closeups? Not in the least. You are a brilliant figure painter. I love the hand painted shields.

Have I ever told you about figure painting duels?

I've just read the painting duels rules and it looks fun but now I have a painting queue I cannot skip as I need to paint the rest of the Zvezda Vikings box and then two boxes of Orcs and one of Trolls to have a game or two with them.
For example right now, I wouldn't mind to participate in a duel to paint one figure from the Zvezda Vikings box.

BTW, thanks to all for your nice comments. I'm very happy for finding out this wonderful forum which now I visit daily to see the fantastic eye candy from other users.

Can only agree with the others. It is almost that Tolkien must have had these figures in mind when he created the Rohirrim. Oh, what did you say? Zvezda didn't exist yet for many years when he wrote the books? You mean he never saw these figs??? Ooops!

I finished another sprue from the box. This time I only painted the ones with cloaks as Rohirrim and the rest as standard Vikings.

I tried black lining on the general and the standar but I'm not convinced with the result as they turned out a bit darker and it took me more time to finish them.

Here I tried strips on the trousers and I like how they turned out.

Cheers,

PS: I'd like to edit my original post to add in the title that there are more painted minis to see but I cannot find a way to do it.

Great work on these Zvezda Vikings/Rohirrim. The shields in particular look very good indeed.
