Napoleon

I've managed to get this far along without ever painting the Napoleon figure in Italeri's box of French command figures. This is mainly because Napoleon mostly wasn't in Spain, leaving the pacification of that country to his brother Joseph and Napoleon's famously egocentric and quarrelling marshals. He only showed up briefly in 1808 at the head of 300,000 soldiers to put down the pesky Spanish after their success at Bailen and subsequent attempts to throw the French out.
Still, Napoleon appeared at one battle, Somosierra where he famously called for his brave Polish light horse to clear the pass. We gamed that battle last week (you can see the report here, if you are interested https://tinywarsplayedindoors.blogspot.com/2021/05/the-battle-of-somosierra-november-30.html) and I figured the French player really should have l'Empereur for the fight.

I painted that figure for my duel against Mr. Andrea in 2018. I found him challenging, especially getting the face to look decent since the eyes, mouth and nose are all exaggerated.

I really like the way you painted him. Which horse did Bonaparte ride during his visit to Spain in 1808?

Excellent !! Getting a facial expression 'right' in this scale is very difficult, especially for so well-known a face as that of the Emperor Napoleon. This rendition is very convincing.

The Nappy is nice, but I also like the gaming-table.

Thanks, all!
Minuteman: I found the face of this figure quite easy to paint, but the biggest problem was his protruding eyeballs. I had to go back in with darkness a few times to get them to recede. But overall, it was a nice figure to work on.

Very nice representation of the man himself Bill.

Lovely battle as always.

I think that Italeri figure is just the best Napoleon, and that is as good a paintjob on him as I think I have ever seen. Great job on the white horse too, it looks alive.

Thanks, Graeme - those are kind words. I always find white horses an interesting challenge and I think my technique changes every time I try to paint one! But I was happy with these results, although only afterwards did I see the flocking stuck to the pistol covers in the photo. It looks as if Napoleon might have taken a tumble. :-D
