Russian cuirassier with captured French standard

Posted by Bendy_Straw on 21 Jan 2021, 14:41

I bought some Zvezda sets for Christmas, and one of my Russian cuirassiers was missing his sabre. So I got the idea of making him carry a French standard instead, and used some French from an Italeri set for the corpses and the eagle. It was pretty fun to make and I hope you guys like my first attempt at a mini diorama, enjoy!

Nice conversion of an excellent Zvezda figure, and well painted too!

The flag looks a little bit clean and pristine given that it has been fought over at no-doubt great cost by the Russian cavalryman, but the drama of the episode in this battle is well-captured here. Well done.

PS: Missing plastic sabres can be 'replaced' if you so wish by one of the following conversion options:

1: Flatten a fairly thin broom bristle (plastic) using the unserrated (flat) section of a pair of pliers, cut to the right length (actually a couple of mm longer to allow for the ferrule), and then shape, with a point at one end and a ferrule at the other. Drill a small hole in the hand - which presumably still has the sword hilt) and glue into place. Reinforce the joint with a dab of PVA glue.

2: As above, but cutting the sabre from a plastic (eg: milk) bottle.

Haha yeah I didn't think about it, the flag should have some dirt on it. And thanks for the tips!

I like the figure and the idea. But in my point of view the trees and the bushes or what it should be could easily be improved. Then your Horseman would be presented better and he is worth it!

Thank you. I agree that I didn't put so much effort in the landscape but I will definitely improve as time passes.

I've merged 2 posts since there were some comments on both posts and now it is all in proper section.
I've also deleted double pictures. I hope this is ok.
