SYW British Artillery

Posted by Fire at Will on 26 Sep 2020, 07:14

Some not quite so simple painting conversions of the Revell Austrian Artillery with my best effort at all the lace. Two medium batteries and one light.

The medium guns are from the Italeri/Esci French Artillery set.

Kurgans

In the background above you can see a couple of mounds, these are Kurgans, burial mounds typically found on the Russian steppes. They appear in the Battleground terrain generator so I decided to make a couple.

They are quite simple construction, just some insulation foam on an old CD, I added an entrance so it was obvious what they were.

Very nice indeed.

Good to see limbers around taking up the space .

Best wishes,

Chris

Aaarghh! You've used the Austrian set I so desperately need.

I'd be livid....except they look so good as British artillery. A very good job.

Ditto, i had a long mental debate on whether to use them or not, I intend to add another pair of limbers using converted figures at some point.

Keep hunting they appear every so often at B&B at shows, they go for silly money on ebay.

Excellent conversions!! SYW has long been my #1 period of interest.

I am feeling a bit lucky as I still have a good sized bag of extra Austrian gunners. I bought several sets years ago.
Usually I am always late to the party.

Will, is this the start of a SYW British army?

If so, how will you proceed? I'm curious to know which existing sets you'd use, what conversions you'd need to do.

Donald, I'm still in two minds about how to proceed, but if I do then I'll probably use the Redbox British Infantry. I've used some already for Hanoverians

I have also used the Revell Prussians as Hanoverian Fussgarde

Lovely. work. I'm currently moving between the PSR Red Box scans & your figures......you must have bought a truckload of sets to get the poses you needed.

I guess you'd want a split Hanoverian/British army anyway.

The Red Box "Jacobite" range looks nice. I haven't gone down this road - yet? - but I think I'd add a Highland unit using the RB figures.....are there correct poses for this? Cavalry......Revell? It's a challenge but that's one of the things I rather like about 1/72 plastics.

Hey Will,
your "little SYW" soldiers looks fantastic.
Nice idea to use the Revell figures for the Hanoverians.
I particularly like them.

Donald, it only took two sets to provide three 24 figure regiments, if you look carefully you will see an Airfix AWI British Grenadier used as a Standard bearer.

I used the Redbox Highland Infantry for my Highland regiments for the SYW

My British cavalry so far is all Revell SYW Austrian paint conversions, only three units, the rest are AWI although I could used the light dragoons

Artillery look great, nice work on the yellow trim! That Revell set has got to be one of the best artillery sets produced in our scale. I have three sets unused, but I've been avoiding painting them as I don't want to commit yet (should they be Austrian as intended, or painted up as British or French). Hopefully you'll be able to update us with your next SYW sets soon!

No one mentioned the Kurgans! Those are great - I love that kind of local detail on the battlefield. The figures look great as well, of course, and although you are not featuring the limbers, they look very fine indeed!
