Strelets French Infantry (War of the Spanish Succession)

Posted by Marvin on 03 Jun 2020, 23:15

Hi, thought I'd share some of my growing army of the Sun King from Strelets' new lovely range of figures. :-D All are from Strelets French Fusiliers (Early War) set of figures.

So nice! I love seeing this army grow - those early 18th century uniforms look like a lot of fun to paint.

You really have steady hand (yellow and white hat edges)...
An eye candy from you as usual.

Wonderful stuff again Marvin...I was looking at these on your blog the other day and wondering when you may post the pics on here! I must admit I was using your photos for reference when painting my French, much like I did with your British.

I'm trying to find more info on the grenadier uniforms as I just want to double check what uniform differences there were between the grenadier company and the rest of its regiment. Haven't found much in my books or online so I assume the only difference is the hat, hatchet and match cord on belt? I see Strelets provided two different types of the grenadier hat which seem similar, but cannot find anything on which regiments had which. Any ideas anyone?!

Hello Marvin,
wonderful painted figures. I agree with Mabo - I loik your style a lo'. Trying to add French accent…
These figures are quite generous to paint. I know because I'm doing mine. Need to put them up when I have a good load and satisfied enough with the pictures.
Always a pleasure to see your posts

Hi Rich, thanks for your support. You'll notice that I have yet to paint any grenadiers and so am already pondering the same questions as you! My admittedly incomplete research suggests - as you say - that grenadiers would look much the same as their parent regiment except for the hat, hatchet, etc. I suspect that records from the time being so sketchy that in good conscience we could assign any grenadier to any regiment. When I come to do my grenadiers, if I learn any more, I will let you know! :-)

Thanks Kekso. They are easy to do in only three or maybe four repaints... ;-)

Very nice job on these, great work with the white uniforms.

I really like the figures biting the cartridges and the expression on the face of the sergeant? with the halberd on his shoulder. And the marching figures have a determination that's quite appealing. regarding the flag, you've got me convinced that's silk.

A note on the uniforms; with cuffs like that, who needs a backpack?

Hello marvin,
the figures look very realistic.
I think you matched the uniforms and their colors very well.
Very successful painting!

Nope. You only need the good yellow paint. In this case I recomment Revell Aclyl paint, then you don't have to do 4 layers!

BTW, excellent painted figures Marvin!
