War of Spanish Succession

Very nice indeed.

They seem to have the feel of a larger scale which is a tribute to your painting.

The officers hair looks very effective.

He obviously is a conditioner man according to Der Feldmarschall.

( As a retired hairdresser she knows about these things).

Two new great additions to your War of Spanish Succession units, both the artillery battery and the infantry regiment, so well painted as all the previous ones, Rich. A wonderful work!

The two brands work good together. You are such a good painter e.g. looking at the hairs.

These look very good, Rich. A very high standard of painting, and photography!

As your earlier pictures of French artillery show, the Strelets and Zvezda figures fit well together, which is good for all of us who are aiming to create variations in pose etc in our artillery batteries.

Very good groundwork too. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for all your kind comments and feedback!

Here are the Regiment de Greder Allemande, who were part of the French force defending the village of Blenheim (Blindeim). I'm not 100% sure I've got the colour for these coats right (they are described as Turquin Blue-so possibly should be a darker shade? and they do look a little Bavarian in shade...

Thanks for looking!

These look very nice, Rich!

Trying to work out what sort of 'blue' (or 'red', or 'grey') is 'right' for this period is near impossible, since even those very few remaining items of cloth - either garments or tapestries - will have faded over the last 300+ years. And given that the dyes used at the time were rarely colourfast, certainly for the cheaper cothing worn by rank and file soldiers, then even within a unit I'd suggest there would be a fair bit of variation in shade.

This being so.....Turquin blue? Whatever shade of blue is that? What I would say is that you have found a very pleasing shade of blue which is entirely believable and which, incidentally, looks somewhat similar to the shade chosen by at least one other painter of the Greder Allemand: https://meicwargames.blogspot.com/2017/ ... emand.html

I think this is a shade darker than 'Bavarian blue', and I think it is right that this is so.

All in all, a very pleasing unit to look at, and a great addition to your WoSS armies. Well done!

PS: Literally this afternoon I have just been completing my Regiment de Provence, many of the same Strelets figures and poses but obviously a different uniform! I am racing to try to complete more Dutch and French infantry (plus artillery) and will post pictures here as soon as I can.

It's been a long time......

When I researched it the colour of the Greder Allemande uniform was described as Turquin blue and as Turquin is a grey-blue marble I settled on using Vallejo blue-grey but it was a little pale so I added so Turquoise to emphasise the blue.
