Tiradores de Doyle

Posted by Bill Slavin on 22 Feb 2020, 18:55

I was finally able to get back to my painting table this month and thought I would tackle some Spanish 1808 light infantry, the Tiradores de Doyle. This unit will feature in an upcoming game (Alcaniz) that I will be playing in March so it seemed like a good time to get them done. I wanted a different look from the ubiquitous brown uniforms I have been painting most of my 1808 Spanish militia/infantry in up until now so this was a nice break.
The Tiradores de Doyle were a unit originally raised as Batallon de la Reunion de Osera. Its name was changed on August 10, 1808 by the Aragonese Captain General José de Palafox to honour the English agent Charles Doyle who arrived in Zaragoza and helped organize and take command of the battalion.
There is more information about this unit along with photos here on my blog if you are interested.

Thanks, Peter. Yes, making the round hats for the command was fun (if maybe a bit over-sized...)

Excellent stuff as always Bill.

A most splendid looking and different unit.

I do like the look of your buildings. They do have the ramshackle ‘feel’ of agricultural buildings of the period.

Interesting to see that you modelling table is as battered as mine.

Best wishes,

Chris

I second that and I would like to point out the cool background with your own houses.

The figures are great, the grass is great, but, as usual, it is the houses that really do the trick for me!
