Hougoumont - the battle within a battle

Posted by Captain Sibourne on 21 Feb 2020, 22:07

Dear All,

I've been neglectful of the forum, so to make amends here's my latest update to my Hougoumont project. It's the biggest task I've undertaken and the area just soaks up troops. There are about 5,000 so far. Here's the link to my blog: http://generalpicton.blogspot.com

My goodness and I thought I was busy.

Visually wonderful stuff as always Mr S.

There is a lot of Airfix artillery boxes wondering where their marching companions have gone to I think.

Keep up the good work.

Best wishes,

Chris

This looks great...What was the trickiest thing about building this diorama? What should we others watch when we build our dioramas of this size?

Thanks Emperor, definitely storage - each section needs a box, which takes up a lot of space.

That we're not paying too much rent for the aircraft hangar :eh:

Thanks everyone, there's quite a bit of 'snagging' here to resolve - too many bases are visible but I'll sort all that out and put another Airfix battalion on the model.

Is there a part of the diorama you're most pleased with? It all looks so very good and some of the little touches are really enjoyable.

Thanks everyone, to answer your question Rich, I think my Belle Alliance gives me the most pleasure - I like the long column of troops coming down the road. I also like large blocks of troops interspersed with small vignettes of perhaps only a few figures. I get bored painting large numbers so it's a relief to paint unusual figures. I also enjoy conversions - Napoleonic figures tend to be in 'drill book' poses - sometimes it's fun to create more dynamic figures from other eras.

Beautiful and very impressive - like an old battle painting - you always discover something new.

Black as night....the Brunswick Leib Battalion exits the covered way and heads towards the boundary between the garden wall and the orchard.

Quite a bit of work to do here - the tree bases are too visible and the faces look a bit pale. A mix of Hinton Hunt, S Range, RSM, Hagen and the new Strelets. Avant Garde to follow.

Hey,
apart from all comments of impression already mentioned - I join these, but no need to repeat ;-).
I love your totally scareless ravaging through the ages and uniforms to widen the number of poses. FEARLESS, RECKLESS, BUT A TOTAL SUCCESS if you ask me!!!!!

Keep up the good work!

Yours, Photoro man
