American Civil War

Hi despertaferro, your stuff is amazing!

I've picked up some 1/72 scale acw figures recently and yours are true inspiration! What size bases have you used for the infantry?

Nice job on all the guns! I know they are for gaming, but they are all mini-dioramas in their own right. I pity the poor infantry in your games with all these heavy guns about, though,

Dear colleagues, thank you very much for your kind words.

When I look at most of the works published here, I feel like just an average painter.
Thanks to your encouragement, I try to improve and pay more attention to detail. I can't express how grateful I am.

Chris, it will be a pleasure and a source of pride if you ever feel like using some of my models as a source of inspiration.

Maxromek, I base my 17th, 18th and 19th infantry on a 5x5 cm bases. 6 figures/base or just 3 if skirmishing or irregulars.

I hope you're all ok

Joan

Hello ...

I think maybe I bought too many ACW guns from Speira ... :xd:

These are a couple of howitzers, 12 and 24 pounders, and an Armstrong from Strelets. Figures, the usual mix. Changed my washing mixture and the matte coat and these come out kind of shinny and too clean for my taste... I'll try to fix it for my next posting.

I'd like to change the subject for a while, but I still have more than a dozen of these guns to paint ... :eh:

Thank you so much for your time.
I hope you are all safe and well.
Best regards

Joan

Shinny I cannot say looking at the photos. But clean I would not say. I know you have your unique style of painting and washing. but there are some unit which have a really brown appearence, so only for my taste of course, I lkie these as well or maybe more than some of your older post.

Maybe you can post a before and after...?

Too many guns? Maybe, but I love each and everyone of them. I can see what you mean about these being a bit shinier than your usual fare and I think I prefer the muddier look of your previous work. But as always, I love what you do and this is a minor issue.

Brilliant as always.

You can never have too many Speira guns!

I love the mixture of poses to give a real atmosphere to the battery.

The saw guy is exceptional. A conversion?

Excellent stuff indeed.

Best wishes,

Chris

Everything looks topnotch and up to your usual high standard, to me.

Those Speira guns are great, and you have given them a worthy treatment indeed.

First, I made a mistake: the Strelets weapon is a 12 pdr Withworth rifle. I don't know how this Armstrong thing came out of my head ... :eh:

Mabo, I'm sorry, but the only pictures I've taken are when the figures are finished. The difference is minimal and hard to notice on this scale, but I can see it in the pictures. I try to be very careful with my wash because my older jobs were too brown (as many of you pointed out at the time ...) and now, sometimes I get a bit short. But I still like the low-cost "battle" look ... :-D

Chris, I don’t know if the man who carries the saw can be call a conversion by looking at the surgical work that some of our model mates can do ...
He’s just a Revell ACW pioneer with a saw that comes from an old Imex battlefield accessories set. But I like these non shoot-reload bases and I’ll try to do a few more.

Thank you so much for your time!

Joan

Tomorrow will be my last day of filming for a while ... It’s been a non-stop period of work (quite often 7/7) since last June ... I think I’ll enjoy a few days of total laziness ...

What is the definition of lazyness? Painting a couple of guns with some figures? Excellent by the way! ;-)

Stay lazy Joan! I'm looking forward to your next figures!

Dear friends, I know this is not related to the subject, but I could not resist ... :-D

The happiest camera team in the world ... The old man in the center, the one with the bossy attitude, this is me ...

You may not believe it, but my sharpest tool is a little bigger than the 00 brush ... 8)

I have the best job in the world ...

And yes, dear Mabo, I'm well aware of how lucky I am ... And I feel sorry for those who are not and I wish the best for everyone without exception. And work for it every day of my life.

Take care ...

Sweet gig (says I, shuddering through the last cold days of a Canadian winter and unable to get away!) I had noticed you were a film maker on your profile. Clearly you bring all that artistry to your brush as well.

1st Massachussets Militia...

Do not let these light uniforms confuse you, these chaps are on the Union side.

I plan to do 3 more Union units not clad in their traditional dark blue uniforms.

All the best...!

Joan
