American Civil War

Posted by despertaferro on 24 Dec 2020, 12:20

Hi!

I hope you’re all safe and doing well…

These 3 bases try to represent a Federal battery of siege artillery. Two guns are Strelets Parrots and the Howitzer is from Speira.
Figures are the usual mix…

I know that, on the Parrots, the screw leveller should go through the cascabel; it does not work as it is. But this is the way Strelets made the model and I’m willing to amend manufacturers faults just to some point. Mostly minor adjustments. I find not pleasure in removing the excess of plastic or mould lines or carving figures to make raiders fit their horses. As far my aim is to produce the bigger armies I can, to rebuild a model would be too time consuming for me.

I hope you like them and many thanks for your time.

Joan

Wonderful work as always.

There is a definite ‘feel’ with your choice of colours etc, of the period and the campaign look.

The Stretlets 30pdr suffers from the defects you mention along with the sixteen spokes rather than fourteen that it should have.

Nevertheless it was a beast.

Here is a live firing

Fascinating stuff.

Best wishes,

Chris

Confederate Fortress Artillery

Figures the usual mix and Speira's Guns

I hope you like them. If the pictures look too dark to you, let me know. I have a new computer and maybe I can see more shadows latitude on my screen than you can perceive here.
Many thanks for stopping by.

Joan

Brilliant work!

There is a real atmosphere about these pictures that give them an authentic look.

Most jealous.

Nice to see the gunners dirtied up. Workingpowder guns was never going to give you the Daz white look.

A small point, but these guns I believe were mounted on a firing radius and the chaps pushing the gun would have been on the inside of the arc for the purposes of sighting.

Nevertheless, first class work.

Best wishes,

Chris

Very nice painting job.
I like the "dirty" campaign feel of the miniatures.

Thank you very much Mr. Dobson for your remarks.

Yes, you’re right, these weapons should be mounted on a flat circular platform. But I had to face the fact that, being not dioramas but wargame bases, the square edges would cut the circular shape on both sides and make an ugly join with the side bases.

To avoid that I tried with a kind of curved metal track for the rotating wheels. Maybe is not so evident because the gravel and the grass all around. My mistake.

As for the pushing gunners, again no so evident but, in the inner part of the big wheels and around the axis, the model have another pair of small metal whels rolling over the wooden frame to put the cannon again on firing position after the last recoil pushed the gun to the rear of the frame.
And this is what I tried to portrait... More or less... :-D

Thank you so much Peter and Mabo for always being encouraging and friendly.

Hi It’s not a mistake!

Yes, you can see your tracks upon close inspection.

My comment was an observation not a criticism as the ‘feel’ of the subject, as always is top class.

Best wishes,

Chris

Dear Chris,

Your comments are always a welcome point of view. And, if ever you want to criticize any of my models, feel free to do so.
I believe we are all grown up and educated people and able to debate in a friendly and respectful way.

The world would be a very boring place if everyone had the same ideas and tastes.

All the best...!

Hi, some more guns for my ACW armies.

Here you can see side by side both models of this mortar made so far on 1/72: the old Italeri and the new Speira's.

I hope you like them.

All the best!

Joan

Some more Speira's Confederate guns.

Seem's that I got a bit stuck on this subject lately... :-D
Sorry if this is getting too boring; maybe I bought too many ACW artillery but I cound'nt resist... Blame Speira's, not me :xd:

Let's see if when I get a bit of free time, around April, I can return to some of my old subjects.

Many thanks for you time

Joan

Excellent stuff and some imaginative pose conversions.

I hope you do not mind me pitching a few of them for my project?

The painting and presentation always evoke the atmosphere of the period.

Super stuff.

Best wishes,

Chris

I find it so boring, all those guns. You must shame you Speira because you make such excellent guns! And you, Joan for painting them! :joker:

The more the better I say! I like them a lot Joan!
