Hougoumont - Work in Progress

Posted by Captain Sibourne on 22 Sep 2019, 16:04

Dear Forum Members,

This summer I took on my biggest challenge yet, the construction of the Hougoumont Farm complex at Waterloo. It's quite a major effort and has meant that I haven't posted here for months. I haven't completely wasted my time though and you can see the results on my blog: http://generalpicton.blogspot.com

Here are a selection of pictures from my blog, some from the actual diorama and others from the figures I've been painting in readiness for the moment when it's complete enough to receive them. The figures are a 1,400 French Line Infantry, 250 Voltigeurs, 150 Grenadiers, 200 Nassauers and 600 British Foot Guards. There will be more to come in the following weeks.

Ps.

White trousers?

Did you find the evidence we discussed?

I am sure you are right but still can not remember where I read it.

Thanks every one, one of the problems for Napoleonic dioramas is the relative lack of action poses available - while serried ranks of war-game poses are right for column and line, Hougoumont needs something different. I've bought a few of the excellent Speira 3D printed figures. These are ACW but convert quite easily to British infantry - the trousers, square packs and belts are similar, all that's needed is a change of head.

GOUMONT

Lt Company`s Coldstream Guards white overalls, Nassau also wore them too along with white shako covers.

Features to the front buildings of Goumont; the giant haystack, the long formal garden wall and cabbage patch running along side of it with the wooded area beyond.

This is epic and well done on your resolve to keep painting all your figures. It is real nice to see Nassau represented too, for what Lord Wellington wrongly remarked as being Hougoumont. BB
