OrctoberFest, and a challenge to come

Posted by carlosfaro on 24 Oct 2018, 12:36

Thank you Suso !!! You have really Venerable old minis for last century :)

I see that Prince August are maybe still valuable as big 1/72 orcs.. If would be sooo nice if you could find the moulds :) :) :)

Games Workshop -Warhammer orcs are definetely out of scale here, mainly because of cartoony design and Head scale.. The same as golbins.. Only snotlings can be used as golbins..
Games Workshop Lor of Rings moria and mordor orcs can be used in my taste...

Compared painted is maybe not so objective or impartial, but it helps really in my opinion to watch or check compatibility options better
Here my own comparisons, made yesterday at home with cellphone in 5 minutes:

PIC 1: BIG ORCS
2X GAMES WORKSHOP MORDOR ORCS (plastic)
1x Mithtil meta
1 x caesar set 2 (plastic)
1x caesar set 1 (plastic)
1X Boardgame piece "War of the ring"
1X Poor lone and brave Zvezda Human viking
Image

pic 2: MEDIUM ORCS
1 x caesar set 2 (plastic)
1x caesar set 1 (plastic)
2X Games Workshop Moria Orcs(plastic)
1x Alliance orc set 1 (plastic)
1x Poor viking again

Image

pic 3. medium + smaller types
1 x caesar set 1 (plastic)
1x Games Workshop Moria Orcs(plastic)
1x Alliance orc set 1 (plastic)
1x G. Workshop Snotling (metal)
1x Caesar old Goblin set (plastic)
1x Poor viking once more

Indeed poor viking! :-D Great to see. I have some Prince August goblins, but nothing to compare them with and I've re-organized the cellar to have stuff I don't use anymore quite unreachable. So the goblins will have to stay were they are. Found an old picture though:

And the whole Black Army:

It's nearly time for ORCTOBER 2019 !!

So after the mummy returned, I turned my brushes to a few more Orcs. I intend to paint as many Orcs and Goblins I can during the next month.
Here you are the first ones:

Great stuff, Phil.
How things change in a year. I was totally in in October 2018 but then my D&D group imploded and orcs, wizards and especially bards have left a sour taste in my mouth. But I will enjoy seeing what others have to offer!

Thank you!
Bill, that's too bad for your D&D group (Mine disappeared 35 years ago, I'm afraid).

A small update this evening, with a test shot, a Wild Orc by Caesar:

What do you think of it ? Are these warpaints convincing ?

Orctober is the month of the Orcs! I like to see on various blogs that some painters take time to paint to worst and less appreciated creatures in Fantasy - Orcs and other Goblins.

This is my contribution to this tradition, and I would like to share it here.

Oh, some very nice entries we have here. It's good to see some defenders of the Orc cause ;-)

@Dykio: I could the pictures with my phone but not my laptop, strange. Nice orc citadel, a paper one ?

@Peter: great Orcs, I remember looking at them some years ago... but where are the mummies ?? :-D

@Samsagace: I think you meant MotOrcHead, instead of SHAKHAI PORCNK !!

After almost 9 months without touching a brush, it seems that I need to speed up and paint every evening. Hum, "speed up"... you know what I mean.
Unlike Marvin who cannot paint less than 12 riders at a time, let me show my unit of 3 Orc riders on Warg.

Ah some reinforcements... or are these Uruk-Hai only meat bringers ? In case of a differend, the stronger should win (I'm working on it...).

A couple of additions to the Orctoberfest with more to come
4 converted Orcs..3 "greenskins" using heads from the Caeser Orcs set 2 and the Bodies of Caeser´s Ratmen..tails removed.
The other conversion is from the Dark Alliance heavy warg riders set. Legs bent a bit to make a Standing pose.
The Hobgoblin is a 2003 Tom Meier Orc with added mace.

Oh excellent! Nice that you explained your conversions, I didn't recognize the ratmen bodies.
And your hobgoblin is a nice addition to this team :)
