Very nice and impressive! Creating diorama water with resin is always a challenge, but the effect of the drowned heli is absolutely stunning.
BTW, what type of resin did you use?

Another work of modeling art. I'm really impressed with the detailing on the exposed helicopter engine. Much admiration for your wild skills. Bill

A really different composition Mr Wiking.

Very nice indeed with super modelling, good composition and excellent water effects.

Well done.

Best wishes,

Chris

Right. :yeah:

And a Army Westland Scout (one of six 656 Sqn AAC, 1982 ) is already Army.

The statement for it being a Royal Marine Scout gives this as the reference -

Flying accidents in the war zone
1 Scout AH.1 Royal Marines (crash landed after main rotor gearbox failure over MacPhee Pond, 8 June. Recovered but written off.) - Ethell, Jeffrey and Price, Alfred - Air War South Atlantic Macmillan Publishing Company (1983) pp.248-251 ISBN 0-02-536300-X. I don't have that book to check though.
The same article also gives this
Aircraft Lost in the Air:
1 Scout AH.1 Royal Marines (shot down by Pucara at Goose Green on 28 May). (Same reference)
Which is confirmed elsewhere -
Scout of B Flight, 3 CBAS shot down near Camilla Creek House, north of Goose Green by Pucaras of FAA Grupo 3 (11.55 am). Pilot Lt Nunn RM was killed.

Then of course there's the separate reference you're aware of
Another Scout, XR628, of 656 Sqn AAC, suffered a main rotor gearbox failure whilst in a low hover over MacPhee Pond on 8 June 1982. XR628 had taken cover as two pairs of A-4 Skyhawks from Grupo 5 approached, these aircraft later attacked the RFA LSLs Sir Galahad and Sir Tristram at Bluff Cove. Once the threat had passed and the pilot began to climb away, the main gearbox failed at the main input drive and the aircraft made a forced landing at the lakeside in around four feet of water. The two crew were picked up another 656 Sqn Scout piloted by Capt J G Greenhalgh later that day. The aircraft was eventually recovered and airlifted to Fitzroy by Sea King on 11 June, but was subsequently written off on its return to the UK. Following research at the National Archive, Kew, it has been determined that XR628 was also the aircraft that was shot down on 26 May 1964, carrying 3 Para's CO, Lt Col Farrar-Hockley.
So far I've not been able to find the pilot's details.

FredG and Wiking--

Thanks for sharing these interesting details. I always appreciate finding out more about the models and subjects here on this forum.

As for whether the Scout was Army or Royal Marine, isn't it more likely to be Royal Marine due to the nature of the conflict? As in, the UK forces were all part of a large Naval Convoy, correct? Or would that be considered an over-simplification?

Leaving aside which it is, Army or Royal Marine, I love this dio, especially the water effects.

3 CBAS (Royal Marines) and AAC (Army) each had six Westland Scouts in combat.

Agreed, the Dio is excellent but considering who made it it is of no surprise.

To paraphrase a well known UK advertising slogan - Mr Wiking makes exceedingly good dios

Agreed, great dio from a great modeler.
Really good idea very well realised, and I thought the title was fun.

Under the jurisdiction of The Admiralty certainly but I'm not sure the Royal Marines would stand for being called Royal Navy. Healthy rivalry between the Royals and the Pussers; and I think the Marines are a seperate (if somewhat junior) service.

But if it simplifies the issue I'll just read the title as "Joining the submarine service?". :xd:

Yes, you point it exactly out.
This support my idea for the Dio too.

If I could make a helicopter like that, it would not encourage me to put it in resin.
Unless I could make water as good as you did it.
Excellent job. :yeah:
