German Grenadiers (Caesar)

Posted by Arbogastiz on 27 Jul 2018, 20:11

Hello, another WW2 figures. I painted them few years ago, so camo patterns are not very good (yes, I know, I paint better camos now) Proportions are little bit funny, like taken from comic book, but I still like Caesar figures :-)

Those are very well done. Thanks for sharing.

And I think the camo pattern looks top notch.

His modesty is refreshing but the truth is, the figures are great.
I would not mind Arbogastiz giving a few tips on how he paints German camo.

Thanks guys! Bluefalchion, tutorial is good idea, next time I'll be painting Waffen SS figures I'll take stage by stage fotos (but don't ask my when - I just don't know - too many projects and commisions to finish :-D )
Now I can tell you what colors I used (mainly Vallejo Model Color paints):

Summer Oak Leaf 'B' and Plane tree (early war 3/4 and lateral) patterns
- base - 70.825 German Camo Pale Brown + 70.874 US Tan Earth - 80:20
- bright green splotches - 70.833 German Camo Bright Green or 70.922 US Uniform Green
- dark green splotches - German Camo Dark Green + 70.950 Black Matt 80/20 or 70/30 ( for my taste pure 70.979 is not dark enough. You can also use any dark olive green mixed with black matt, i.e. 70.888 Olive grey, 70.894 Camo Olive Green, 70.975 Military Green etc)

Fall Plane tree 3/4 patterns
- base - 70.869 Basalt Grey + 72.062 Earth (Game Color) 60:40 (IMO it can't be any ''bluish'' grey, as 70.992 Neutral Grey or 70.868 Dark Seagreen, it will ruin autumn camo, should be pale ''dirty'', earthen grey)
-orange splotches - 70.911 Light Orange or old Citadel Foundation Macharius Solar Orange
- black spotches- 70.950 Black Matt, or mix it with 70.995 German Grey 70:30 to get more pale black effect.
Best regards,
Chris

Ok, I painted these figures about 1,5 years ago and you can see the details on camo are better painted, (minis are also anatomically better sculpted, so it's worth to paint them more carefully) - sharper edges, more smaller spotches, historically accurate drawing of patterns. Of course, they need a lot of brushwork and some corrections but even now I'm satisfied with result :-D

PS. Sorry, I can't take better quality pics with my camera on such small camos...
