„The Attack“

Attack on a German marching column in the French hinterland. The dynamite is well hidden and the fuse burns. Now you should go slowly to cover .....

The Kugelpanzer was a prototype tank manufactured during world war II by the famous Krupp company. It was one of the most unusual tank ever built. It is believed that the spherical tank should become a one-man reconnaissance vehicle. The ball tank should be armed with a MG34 or MG42. However, the opening for the weapon was subsequently closed with a metal plate. The last known exemplar of the Kugelpanzer is now in the Kubinka Tank Museum in Russia.

I reworked this old vignette and made new photos. I hope that no one gets angry at me because I publish this old vignette in the forum. I hope you like the pictures a bit.

Nice Model. It is of often in use. With rust and oil marks as dust.
First time I see this model in a Dio.
And Fritz is nice paint.

It will not work as it is available as a kit. There is no dampening for the driver, gear, engine. Not very logical. Have you ever driven a bicycle without tire only on his wheels. On a flat road. You feel every little stone at very low speed. There is an RSO with four steel wheels. The reports about are negative! And with this vibration the operator have to look out thru the small slit!

The ribs at the two wheels are for holding the rubber tire that today never exist.
And this single very small rear wheel. Will stuck immediately into softer ground.
This is to store the whole vehicle. It would be removed before the vehicle get into his mission.
So I think.

Each German single tank project like the GrosstraKtor, Neubaufahrzeuge, Leopard, VK 3001, VK 3601 and so on is documented. As several paper tanks.
This thing with the given name Kugelpanzer, (Ball tank) there are no information, documents.
That is very crazy to my eyes.

Wiking, thank you for your long and detailed comment. That with the 'Kugelpanzer' is such a thing. Did you look at the photos from the Russian Museum? The 'Kugelpanzer' has recently got a new and very good place there. And he also got a new paint job. It looks like he's a crowd pleaser.

Anyway, I love stuff like that. A little speculation, mystery, uncertainty and maybe cheat. The world as it is !!!!!!

MABO, thank you for your kind words. Well, if nobody has anything against it, then in the next time there will be new photos of other old diorama and vignettes of mine. Class! Am happy !!!

Well - that thingie has never been used in France, it seems. Whatever. Nice subject, nice idea and worth a read. Fascinating subject. In fact, nobody really knows what this tank-like-object was really intended to be. For close infantry support, even a 5mm armor is pretty weak because under heavy machine gun fire, the driver would get nailed. For a recon vehicle, it is too slow plus it offers a miserable view from inside out. Oh - and this thing obviously doesn't come along with radio equipment. Sometimes I really wonder about what stupid 'weapons' were created... worse then that, just think about all the working time, the ressources and the money that was spent on such... prototypes.

What, I can not believe that?!?!? This fantastic tank was never in France ???? If I catch the liar who told me that !!!!!! But I will scold the guy out ....

I think the Kugelpanzer gets the honorary title 'craziest tank of all time' !!! But I still love him !!!! Although I do not want to do a trip with that ... I just think it's amazing what the human brain is capable of. Even the stupidest ideas are figured out in it. I think the inventor of the Kugelpanzer now acts as if he had nothing to do with it.
