here is my entry of the 48th Painting Competition! An Athenian hoplite, saying goodbye to his wife and daughter to go to war. Thanks to all participants and voters (especially the ones who voted for me ) , this competition was great fun again. Congrats to the winner!
I love this scene, it is very well done, full of atmosphere! Well, the roof tiles are not correct for ancient Greece - but who cares? The overall impression is still very convincing! The motif of the hoplite, saying goodbye to his family, is a classical one, found on many vases and so on. So it is really fascinating to see such a scene made as a 1/72 vignette.
A beautiful scenario, with a family, a small house, much harmony even in coloring. And yet it makes you think and almost a little bit sad, because all that is at stake. In my eyes this little work of art says much more than you want see at first glance.
