Hat - Lutzow Uhlans

Posted by Bramble15 on 01 Dec 2017, 23:17

Even though these older figures are not that great, once painted and presented they kind of grow on you. At least for me. I have one more box left that will eventually become Prussian Uhlans.

Very nice Prussian unit ! The Lützow colors are a real challenge IMO, and you've done a great job.

These look great, you've really put some life into them. The way you've painted the black uniforms is most interesting.

Actually I like that set, i think they are good looking figures. The only problem I can see with the set is that the sword is much too big for the figures. It's the perfect size for modifying some Strelets personality figures though.

I remember buying this set and other Hat produced figures from Langleys a toy shop in Norwich. That was way back in the day of 2003. Well on reaching home and unpacking them i noticed some so and so had pinched a sprue from each box.I took them back and the owner refunded my money and let me keep what was in the 8 boxes for my trouble. So the free boxes are still here upon my shelf. A good memory to remember. BB

It look very well paint for Hät figures to my eyes.
And the small variation in the position of the horse.
Look for me more realistic as correct side by side set rows of attackers.

I am far away to be an expert of that time frame. But if I saw the pic for the first time I get the same impression.

With HaT figures, I always think they're going to look decent but getting them to look really good is going to be a greater challenge, so it's nice to see them appearing as good as your figs. I do like the black uniforms which, from the pics, appear that a grey highlight has been added and given them a bit of depth?

Nice work, Bramble!

The PSR review on these has put me off acquiring the set. Seeing these painted up so well, I'm tempted to get them.
I think I'd be making three more lances and ditching the swords.

Very nice indeed.

I chopped the heads off and replaced them with Hat prussian artillery heads and used the Hat Prussian hussar horses.

The result was most satisfactory.

Best wishes,

Chris

@C M Dodson - Hmmm, sounds workable considering I have another box of Uhlans and two of the Hussars! Can you post photos? would love to see the end result.

Well - you did a nice paintjob. :-)
But those figures are still absolutely awkward. :-(

I suppose that these would do much better: http://www.schmaeling.de/napoleonischer-krieg/preussen/preussische-landwehr/642/preussische-landwehr-kavallerie?c=81

I know what you mean Sascha, but on the other hand we were pleased that Hat started making these figures. Untill then there wasn't much choice on the market! ;-)

Great work on the painting of these figures Rich! Well done!

Thanks for the comments guys.

@ vellek - sorry to disappoint but nope! Nothing done to the lances or the pennants. I contemplated making both from scratch but I really just wanted to get these guys painted. Up to that point I had taken a break from painting (summer break) and just wanted to get back into the swing of things. I knew if I did that I would procrastinate even more!!!!!
