My Plastic Soldier Company Summercamp

Posted by MABO on 27 Oct 2017, 21:28

Here you can see the reuslts of my work on the PSC sets that I have assembled last summer. Comments are welcome of course.

First I show you the M5A1 in British Service:
You might have had a look in my WIP topic. http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=21042

What is not show there is the detail work with drybrushing, washing, and using pigments to give the halftrack a used look.

Now we come to the next part of the program: The German Army in the Desert War; For that I have build these three models.

Image

I must say, I love the OPEL Blitz. It was very easy to build and again all parts fits very well. And it was the first lorry, that I build. Maybe the Italeri/ESCI is much more detailed, but I like the overall look.

Image

The SD Kfz was not so easy to assemble. The set offers four different version, one can build. But the instructions are not that precise. So I have to find out the right way to finish this SD Kfz 263. I used Peddinghausen Decals for it as for the other two ones.

It is a set, which includes decals for a lot of different decals for types of vehicles. And also for a Pz. III G. I tried to achieve a very used and worne out look of sandwashed metal. Everytime a new try with each new model. But I am not yet convinced.

The last part will come soon... 8)

Nice work on the Brit halftrack. The nicely painted figures and stowage make it more realistic. Africa korps vehicles are terrific too.

Very nice job on the British halftrack, it really does have a very good used look. And everything on the figures and stowage looks very realistic, right down to the tool handles.

I have to agree with Paul, this kit does look like good value. Looks like a very nicely detailed model with lots of good looking stowage to go on it and customised figures to go in it. The guy operating the MG is a splendid figure.

Your Afrika Corps truck and tank look like they've been worked very hard in a harsh environment.

Today I continue with the last part of the show: The Sherman Firefly Set from PSC.

Image

Image

Generelly I must say this set is also very nicely done. All parts fit well inspite of the mud guard. It was not easy to add and there ist no space left between the upper track and the mud guard.

What I really like is the solution for the tracks. The "three part assembly" looks quiet good and works much better than the rubber tracks in other sets or the "swot - variant" were every single segment has to be assembled one after the other :eh: And it looks also better than the solution from Armourfast, which is more basic.

Image

Image

I would like to use special decals from Peddinghausen and Black Lion.

The Black Lion ones are for the 1.Polish Armourd Division. They look qiete nice but when you try to add them on the model, they are extremly fragile. I can really not recommend. It might be me, but I never had this problems before. The only way in the end was to add dirt on the place, where decals have been destroyed.

Image

But to be honest the Peddinghaus decals are disappointing in another way. The instructions mentioned decals not included and some decals included are not mentioned. So I have to do a lot of research and in the end decide what might be the least wrong possibility. :read:

And additionally the model and the decals are not in the same scale. They are to big, as you can see below. :joker:

But I like the tanks, even the decals are not, what I thought they should be. Please feel free to comment. So here is the result.

Decals were always a fumbling problem for my wobbly mitts!

All the kits look good painted up for the desert war Jan.

The trucks, armoured cars and tanks being three in a box have a reasonable price tag on them,
when compared to single kits of other producers. BB

Jan--

Guess you will have to hand paint the unit symbols since the decals don't work. Luckily you are equipped with mad skillz!!

Also excellent painting and weathering on the Shermans. I like them very much!
I only used Peddinghaus decals once, and then I luckily had no problems with them.

Again very nice weathering on the Shermans. Your solution to the dodgy decals works very well, it looks like authentic wear. Very impressed by the face of the tank commander. :yeah:

I've recently discovered PSC. They are wonderful models for a very reasonable price. Your British/Commonwealth halftrac is very nice! And an inspiration.
