Ancient temple - 1/72 building

Posted by Phersu on 12 Aug 2016, 13:34

I finished to paint and assembly the first temple model, and yesterday was a perfect sunny day to take some photos of it.

Image

Despite some mistakes I made it came out quite good, especially considered that it's my first attempt to make an assembly building model and to cast something so big... and the mistakes are a good lesson anyway because so I will do better next time! ;-)

Image

There was nearly no imperfections in the casting, I had to remove or fill very few tiny bubbles, only on the roof and on the front basrelief triangle.

Image

The assembly fitted well enough only with glue, there was nearly no gaps at all, and therefore no need of putty, the acrilic was enough to cover the joints.
There is only a tiny gap visible under the roof because is not glued to the rest (I keep it openable to add figures and accessories inside later) this gap oviously will disappear completely if the roof is glued to the building.

Image

Perhaps only the top of the roof junction need some putty to hide completely the gap and come out perfect.
I culdn't cast some protrusions on the back of pieces, therefore I couldn't add assembly rails to fit easy and perfectly the pieces together... After all both the making and the casting are first attemps of craftworks, and the model however came out well and it's easy to assembly anyway.

Image

It was not easy to sculpt a perfectly regular junctions on such long pieces, and is not so easy neither to cast them without professional machinery... and in the end is not easy to glue perfectly two very long parts like that roof all along together.
Placing the 8 collumns all perfectly lined straight in the right place could be a bit tricky too...
However I already prepared the instructions sheet, with all the hints and tricks to make the assembly easy and avoid to get mad! :winky:

Image

Now I just have to cast some copies, but I have to wait to release it... because my local envelopes and box distributor is closed for summer holyday, it's a matter of few days, as soon as she re-opens I'll get the boxes to package these new models!

Image

The comparison with the old 1/72 Atlantic figures, the same figures which inspired me this model of temple since I was a child!
A bit at time I will sculpt my own haruspex and priests with altars, statues and roof decorations to complete the scenery... and hopefully within one year to make a complete diorama!

When we talk about ancient buildings I first think of ruins. We forget that those once were brand new like this one. Fantastic assembly and painting. Colorful relief is my favorite detail but everything else is excellent as well.

I agree with Kekso. The relief comes out very nice with these colors.

Fabulous looking temple. The bas relief pediment is excellent and the painting transforms the model into a real building. Your armies now have the blessings of the Gods.

Thank you again my friends! ;-)

I just finished to cast some copies of this temple model, no may really because "home made" castings required a lot of time... and I have to start another work now!

I answered some questions and explained some things in the relative WIP thread:

Where of course with friends, we are also talking about the technical aspects of model buildings, and the historical and architectural aspects concerning ancient temples and buildings!

I started to make some accessories to complete the scenery, to start some statues of gods and mithological characters... and some altars and pedestalls.
Some more are ready and just have to be painted, some others more will follow a bit at time when ready! ;-)

These are the first painted resin copies, some others will follow a bit at time. ;-)

Thank you Peter!
And here comes also the painted figure of Asklepios, he couldn't missed, as several famous temples were dedicated to his cult... ;-)

:coffee: Thinking on the theme of home production.
Perhaps larger complex pieces might be cast up using two plastic syringes at the same time.
Meaning two runner in-gates and even another helper to ?_ :sst: "Assist you." :-D "That`s right." BB
