Lasalle first game

Posted by rpardo on 04 Apr 2010, 23:49

Hi
I was missing for a while... During this time I have discovered and played a new Napolsonic ruleset: Lasalle. It is addressed to divisional-size encounters and has several ingenious game mechanics (like all games devised by Sam Mustafa)
You can see an AAR at my web site:

It's a pity, but most of the wargamers there out, are not using 1/72 figures... can you believe it? :(

Having done a lot of games mostly in 15mm I can understand, and its not the cost its the variety that drove me to 15mm. Now I am planning on 1/72 plastic

Is that because the rules are not widely available or there aren´t enough sets of rules, for 1/2nd or adaptable to 1/72nd??

Hi
IMHO it is somewhat complex.
The first wargaming miniatures were metallic 30-25 mm , and when the metal prices grown up in the 70-80's, transformed into 15 mm. In those times, most of the 1/72 figures were plastic (do you remember Airfix?) and miniature wargamers, in general, dislike non-metallic figures, so our scale, placed in the middle, was forgotten.
Today there is a change, as some 'big' figure designers (Perry, Victrix...) have started to manufacture hard plastic figures. But again not in 1/72 scale, but in 25-28 mm, so the 'problem' will continue in the future.
Only if there were a sufficient numbers of manufacturers making 1/72 metal figures, our scale would be popular.
However I am very satisfied with my choice.
1/72 for ever ! :horse:

To my mind after many many years of wargaming is that every set of rules is adaptable to any figure size ie I have seen DBA played in 2mm and 54mm and the game seems just as much fun for those playing as the regular recommended 15mm

Rprado I have looked at Lasalle inthe shops , and I have thought about it,. is it any better then Napoleons Battles?

Lasalle and Napoleon's Battles are very different. NB is for grand-tactical scale and battles above 40,000 men by side, whereas Lasalle is designed for smaller combats with one or two divisions for each side.
Lasalle is addressed to tournament and club games, and it pretends to be the FoW or the WAB or the Warhammer of Napoleonics!

You can see a review, with my opinion, in the following post of my blog

Interesting notes about Lasalle.
Whe it come to 1/72 scale gaming I agree that 15 and 25/28mm are THE wargaming sclaes when it comes to rules. On the other hand I had no problems gaming with 20mm. Mostly I use the 25mm base sizes.
Also many rules sets (DBA;DBM;Armati;Under the Lilly Banners, etc) use multiple bases so just more space to put models and scenery on them..

Hi,

Out of curiosity, how are you basing 1/72 for Lasalle? I find the differences between figs in terms of scale is making a consistant base size difficult to find.
