Thanks for the kind words.

FoG seems to get a lot of bad press.

We started using it about 9 months ago. The first game went in excess of 5 hours without the glimmering of a result!

Part of the problem is it's about the worst written set of rules out. Terms are used but not defined (if ever) until about 100 pages later. I've found bits such as mentioning an (undefined) penalty for chariots shooting whilst evading. AFAIK they NEVER say what the penalty is. ETC.
But once you sort it all out, it's surprisingly quick to play. The shots above are from the first of 2 games we played last Sunday. Less than 2 hours each, including setting up & game post-mortems. Slick!

And of course, once you put in the effort to learn the rules, you are very hesitant to drop them for something else. Version/1 BTW. We've been thinking about/2 but haven't got round to it (just a "tarting up" anyway?)

I do like FOG R but I think it works best for the later periods ( late 17th Century) .Have you thought about basic impetus at all. gives a fun game game as does the full version

I've been told FoG R is a better set than FoG A.

It's the time invested in FoG, though. Now we've got it to the stage of enjoying the rules (& they have a "historical" feel, whatever that means), we don't intend to change anytime soon.

Basing is also an issue: would Impetus use FoG basing? We also have really big Punic War armies we use with FoG.

I will admit to using Neil Thomas' fast play rules. They work, they're easy & they're very, very bland.

Hi

Yes Impetus would use FOG basing 28mm figures use 120mm wide bases and 15mm uses 80mm wide basing , most 1/72 gamers would use the 28mm basing ( so 4x3 fog bases) for each unit

http://www.dadiepiombo.com/basic2.html

there is a basing page example on that page as well

the depth of the base isnt that important to be honest , as long as its close enough and if it fits in with what you already have then that would be fine

There is also on the Bennos forum viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7348
