What rules are you using now?

I basically use variations of Fire and Fury for gunpowder era thru WW2
I am also going to use Niel Thomas's Ancient and Medieval wargame rule book its very simple and looks quite good.

why are they so many rules?
Is it worth it buying several rules (RapidFire, Blietzkrieg, Force on Forec, and so on...)?

I see that it has been a while since this thread was posted to. I use Carnage & Glory II. It is a computer moderated rule set with various versions that cover TYW/ECW, WSS/7YW, Napoleonics, ACW, FPW eras. Gret support from the author through a Yahoo group. The ground scale is in paces and I find that it works great with 1/72 figures. Very convention friendly as well since new players don't have to really know much to get started. The computer does all the calculations.

The game of tennis, for instance, has only one set of rules.

Why does even a single period (eg WW2) have literally hundreds o sets of different rules?

Because we wargamers are crazy.
