General Wargaming

Billy-no-Mates...

Posted by Harry Faversham on 23 Apr 2019, 11:28

Well sadly, that's soon to be yours truly. We're moving to live near the seaside next month, my old cronies the Dynamic Dunderheads, may get to visit every six months and that's about it. There's a wargames club near where we are going, but I'd sooner stick pins in mi' eyeballs than join one of them again. So it's the lonely furrow of solo gaming, in which I need sage advice... What's the best way to proceed for lonely wargamers , some decent rules (any period as long as they're of the KISS principle) and are there any morale boosting plus's to 'walking alone, a man of steel'?

There´s links to free wargaming rules here (Close to the bottom of the lists)
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=10207
I can´t remember wether or which link has solo rules but they are there on one or more of the links. The links haven´t been checked for a while so if you find any down then please tell :-)
What period(s) rules are you looking for?

Anything with a nod to solo wargaming. I can send the Tardis anywhere from the Vikings to Galactic Heroes!

Harry Faversham:

Just out of curiosity, why do you have such a strong aversion to joining a wargamers club? Is it the perceived lack of personal hygiene, or is that just a USA thing?

'Doom Squad - Solo Wargame Rules' just arrived and I'm skiving off packing to have a read, and I'm impressed. I can see my teams being Highlanders and Gurkhas on the NWF, with the Mad Mullah's baddies popping up all over the place!

Out of interest, what scale are your figures?

The Duke and Irish Sarge look real cool painted.
What seaside are they making sand castles on? BB

The two figures are made by King and Country, slightly larger than 54mm. They are both in their 'specials' range, if memory serves, you got one free if you spent over $500 in one go!
Here's two more of my figures, Bob and Dave at the seaside in Cleethorpes...
I can tell you their size exactly, it's one to one!!!

Wargaming the Crusades I assume?
Nearly 800 years too early for Harry, but at least the climate is similar to the Sudan. ;-)

The pictures also reveal that your gaming table is guarded by a british WWII para & another comrade.
Thats a PIAT in the background?

A very neat and well set up table indeed.

Emporium, are you in the business of selling Militaria?
Or sea-side rock with your name running through the middle of it? BB

Yep, our take on Hattin, there's about another six Regiments of Saracen Cavalry to add before battle commences.
Members of the 1st A/B Div's. XXI Independent Parachute Company and Recce Squadron stand guard, it is indeed a PIAT they've got, to take on Jerry's big cats!

I'm learning that the number one rule of solo wargaming is complete impartiality...
