The Duelling Field

A new idea for duels

Posted by Howlin on 31 Aug 2024, 05:32

No new duels? I miss that a bit.

I imagine it must be a big commitment for the blind dueler and host.... perhaps a new format?

I was thinking the host, picks maybe 3 minis a month of different genres and makers and then all who want to submit a response would do so. Then the images compiled and voted on.

The minis would be announced the start of the month before, then posted to judge at the end of the 2nd month

This might be easier to manage since there would be less emails needed to go back and forth to coordinate a mini and wait for responses. If people miss the deadline then hopefully there would still be entries to make it a fun enterprise and see a more varied life and example of each? And also possibly help make it more interactive and draw more in.

Everyone involved in organising and contributing to the past duels gets my respect. I would like to have joined in, but I get so little time to paint as it is that I don’t want to have even less time on my WSS!

Right on Rich! I had a blast doing so a few models and am thankful for all who participated. I would like to say I could be responsible enough to take it on for all, but truth is with full time work, and many projects just to take care of stuff I am sometimes a bit worse for time. ...

....but maybe if some are interested I could give it a try for a casual experience, not so much to brag about dueling, but showcase how many different interpretations we can find for some of our favorite minis.

Your idea sounds very interesting, Howlin. I personally liked the previous model of duels...even though I never participated in them.

However, given the forum's problems over the last few months, I'm afraid it would be very difficult to carry out any activity that requires the participation of a certain number of forumers. :(

I miss quite a few members who were regular contributors, such as Egbert, MABO, Konrad, Wiking, santifernandez, Minuteman and many more. :( :( :(

Oh... I am not so sure of what has been going on or why there has not been any more dueling. I hope and trust all is well with them.

It has always been a bit of a mystery to me as to why with this site there are so many views to post compared to the number of likes and responses. To be honest without that community my own passion for this project took lesser priority. I am soon making a small hobby room from a closet and that is to help motivate me. thank you for all your kind responses on this forum.

Sorry guys,

For the late reaction, I haven,t been on the forum last moths myself.
I lost my job, found a new one and had a bad time last months.
2 days ago I finaly painted again after 6 months, and in 2 weeks I will be in Lingen to promote FIGZ

About dueling, just try to find a dueling partner, just PM each other.
Then you mail me at bfduel@gmail.com and I will come between each other.
I need a PSR link to the figure, a name for the duel,
and when you are ready to duel send me 2 pictures, back and frond with the titel of your entry.
As simple as that, and of course my lips are sealed until the duel is over.

The monthly duel is stopped because of finding 12 duelers, and if I get 2 duelers at the same time I will put just 1 up, and the other one when the duel is ready.

Glad to see you back on the forum, Remco, and that it's because you've overcome your past bad situation. As I have already said in several posts, I too am going through a rough patch with housing problems, but continuing to post on the forum helps me to think less about it, while my wife and I do our best to overcome it successfully.

As I can't paint at the moment (and it's almost 10 months now), I hope to be able to join your proposal for new duels once the problem is solved and the possibility of painting is recovered. ;-)
