Stretching Hoplites

Posted by Marshall Nay on 21 May 2011, 03:28

The Caesar Greek Hoplites are shorter and chunkier than the Zvezda Greek Warriors. But I've discovered that the plastic Caesar uses is very elastic when it's warm. The short, chunky legs can be stretched.

1. Boil a Caesar figure for 15 seconds.
2. Remove and put a fork between it's ankles at the base.
3. Stretch, and while stretching, dip in cold water.
4. Flatten base rubbing it on flat surface.

Voilà. The Caesar figure now has longer, thinner legs, and is now about the same height and proportions as the Zvezda figure. And it's much easier to make a descent phalanx using both sets together.

No pics. I still haven't learned how to use my digital camera :laughing1: :camera: .
If you have a Caesar figure laying around, maybe you could give it a try and post one? (Wink, wink.)

The Republican Romans are also stretchable, so it probably applies to all recent Caesar plastic.

Very good and interesting idea! :headbang:
Useful in many cases, squat plastic figures are not so uncommon. :boink:
It can be also used to make the same figs height slightly different one from each others... to avoid the "clones look" in formations!

The fork tool seem very simple and effective! :lamp:
I will try that also casting resin figures...
When released early from molds resin is still soft, in a little time it will get completely hardened...
if meanwhile is kept stretched it will keep the new different shape once hardened, just like plastic!
Even a bit later, if not completely hardened, resin can be softened with heat...
cooling it will get hard keeping the shape! :winky:

There's another way to do the same thing or the opposite on the entire figure while casting figures in soft elastic silicon and rubber molds. :winky:
We can make squatter figs squeezing the mold, or taller and slimmer figs pulling it, while the resin is hardening inside!
